Position Description
Harris County Precinct 4 is seeking a professional, safety-driven Bus Driver to support our popular Day Trips program and other community transportation needs. This role is essential in helping residents explore destinations across the region-whether visiting parks, museums, historic sites, or special attractions-while ensuring every passenger enjoys a safe, comfortable, and welcoming ride.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure the safety and security of all passengers throughout transport
• Assist passengers with boarding, seating, deboarding, and loading/unloading equipment
• Maintain comfortable interior conditions by adjusting heating, ventilation, and lighting
• Operate vehicles in full compliance with traffic laws, safety regulations, and Precinct 4 policies
• Report delays, accidents, or vehicle issues promptly and document as required
• Conduct pre-trip inspections and complete all necessary trip reports
• Review route details in advance and arrive at pickup locations 30 minutes before departure
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness through refueling, trash removal, and washing/sweeping/mopping after each trip
• Refrain from using tobacco products in Precinct 4 vehicles
• Accurately document daily trip information and submit receipts and reports
• Provide occasional clerical or administrative support for Precinct 4 events and community centers
• Perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, and safely entering/exiting the bus
• Work in various conditions, including outdoor weather, vibration, and moderate noise
• Maintain, service, and clean the bus lavatory as needed
• Represent Precinct 4 professionally, assist constituents, and reinforce bus rules when necessary
• Participate in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery operations
• Perform other duties as assigned to support Precinct 4 operations and service excellence

Requirements
Education:

• High school diploma or GED

Licensure:

• Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of safe driving practices, traffic laws, and regulations
• Clean driving record with the ability to operate a bus safely in varying traffic and weather conditions
• Physical ability to drive for extended periods and perform manual tasks such as cleaning and vehicle upkeep
• Ability to follow routes using GPS or physical maps
• Friendly, respectful, and positive demeanor when interacting with passengers
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Willingness to attend and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications provided by Precinct 4

• At least two (2) years of experience driving larger vehicles (approximately 40 ft)
• Recent experience driving large buses (around 40 ft) within the past two years
• Maintain a strong, clean driving record
