Director, Total Rewards

Job Summary The Director of Total Rewards leads the design, implementation, and administration of the AAFP’s compensation, health and retirement benefits, wellness, and work‑life programs. This role is responsible for developing strategies that attract, retain, and engage employees while ensuring programs remain competitive, cost‑effective, and aligned with business objectives. The Director partners closely with senior leaders and external vendors to manage compensation structures, employee benefits, compliance requirements, and total rewards communications. The Director analyzes market trends and workforce data to recommend improvements that enhance the employee experience and support organizational success. Key Responsibilities Design, implement, and administer compensation, health and retirement benefits, wellness, and work‑life programs. Develop strategies that attract, retain, and engage employees while ensuring programs remain competitive, cost‑effective, and aligned with business objectives. Partner closely with senior leaders and external vendors to manage compensation structures, employee benefits, compliance requirements, and total rewards communications. Analyze market trends and workforce data to recommend improvements that enhance the employee experience and support organizational success. Oversee health, retirement, disability, paid‑time‑off, behavioral health, work‑life, flexibility, and other benefits, and related wellness offerings. Lead modern employee wellness programs focused on physical, mental, and financial wellbeing. Negotiate contracts and conduct RFPs; manage vendor relationships and ensure agreements are executed appropriately. Required Qualifications 6–10 years of progressive experience leading the strategy, design, and implementation of employer health and retirement benefits, compensation, and wellness programs, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role. Strong financial background and the ability to apply financial insights to compensation and benefits strategy. 6–10 years of experience developing and delivering communications to engage employees and increase their understanding of the entire portfolio of benefits and wellness programs. Experience leading the vision, strategy, and execution of a modern employee wellness program focused on physical, mental, and financial wellbeing. Experience negotiating contracts, providing feedback, and ensuring agreements are executed appropriately. Experience developing and conducting RFPs regularly and vendor management. In‑depth knowledge of employment laws, tax regulations, and regulatory requirements. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or Finance.
