Animal Research Technician

Job TitleJob OverviewRequirement/Must Have:High School diploma or equivalent degree (GED).Ability to work in extreme environments including hot, cold, noisy, and humid conditions.High priority focus on biosecurity, attention to detail, and timeliness.Persistence and energy in a dynamic, fast-paced, and demanding work environment.Willingness to work directly with animals during ante-mortem and post-mortem procedures.Must not have allergies to animals or livestock/feed dust.Ability to maintain an even temperament when working with livestock.Willingness to learn at a rapid pace.Results oriented, cooperative, and a systematic thinker.Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary matrix environment and value teamwork.Sound judgment and analytical thinking skills.Ability to manage processes, projects, and function well in a team or committee role.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Responsibilities:Complies with applicable regulations and company policies.Documents and maintains records of animal care, preventive medicine, and study protocol-driven documents.Provides animal husbandry and care including provision of feed, water, and enrichment materials.Maintains, adjusts, and repairs animal pens, feeders, drinking systems, and livestock handling equipment.Performs cleaning and sanitation of animal rooms and equipment.Restrains and manipulates animals for routine and emergency procedures.Recognizes and communicates signs of sickness or distress in animals to the Site Veterinarian or Group Leader.Conducts daily animal health and welfare assessments.Administers treatment to animals at the direction of the Site Veterinarian.Conducts scientific clinical observations and disease outcome assessments.Administers experimental treatment articles in accordance with study protocols.Records all scientific information on study protocol documents or standard department forms.Under supervision, administers and monitors sedation and conducts euthanasia in accordance with protocols.Performs site biosecurity functions including water system sanitation and environmental auditing sample collection.Assists with clinical R&D sample collection including blood, feces, oral fluids, and tissues.Assists with necropsies at the direction of the Site Veterinarian or delegate.Nice to Have:Experience providing guidance to junior team members.Experience serving as a representative on site-specific committees and workgroups.Skills:Animal Husbandry.Clinical Observations.Sample Collection.Biosecurity Protocols.Documentation.Equipment Maintenance.Sanitation.Livestock Handling.Qualification And Education:High School Diploma or GED.Physical Requirements (Due to nature of job, the candidate must have):Ability to lift 70 lbs occasionally.Ability to lift 50 lbs frequently.Ability to read and see clearly.
