Western National is seeking a Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter to join our team!

The individual in this role will have the opportunity to develop a book of business by writing and retaining commercial lines accounts through assigned agencies.

Responsibilities and opportunities of this role include:

• Building and maintaining strong agency relationships.
• Managing an agency territory to achieve established growth and profit goals.
• Assessing risks and exposures on new and existing business to identify opportunities to maximize assigned territory growth and loss ratio objectives.
• Using general practices, processes, procedures, and established underwriting authority level to analyze the operations and exposures of different types of risks to write, renew, or modify business.
• Managing high risk/hazard business.
• Mentoring team members, resulting in increased effectiveness in one or more areas of knowledge or skill for colleagues.
• Applying high degree of knowledge of coverages, forms, symbols, and endorsements per line of business with the ability to articulate to others.
• Focusing on writing new business as defined by annual goals depending on the region.
• Applying high degree of rating knowledge and experience, including composite rating and scheduled rating.

Must-have qualifications for a candidate include:

• Demonstrated time management skills with ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
• Analytical with ability to exercise sound business judgment.
• In-depth knowledge of rating concepts.
• Proficient use of various core systems, office and computer equipment, and software packages.
• Bachelor's degree in insurance or finance or equivalent related experience.
• At least five years of experience in a commercial lines underwriting role.

Ideal candidates will have:

• Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills and ability to accomplish multiple time-sensitive priorities.
• Understanding of industry practices, standards, and underwriting concepts.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
• CPCU, AU, or CIC certification.

Compensation overview:

The targeted hiring range for this role is $83,100 - $116,400, annually. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role. Candidates looking for compensation outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their individual qualifications and / or may be considered for other positions.
