Job SummaryWe are currently seeking a Senior Systems Engineer. This position is a full-time opportunity located in Columbus, OH.The selected candidate will perform advanced systems engineering research and analysis, conduct quality-control reviews, analyze requirements and system performance, and prepare and review technical documents. This role applies systems engineering principles and practices to complex assignments while collaborating with engineers, technical specialists, project teams, and clients.The Senior Systems Engineer will also support system architecture, interface definition, integration, verification, validation, and test-planning activities, and may provide technical direction to engineers and technical support staff in performing assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints.ResponsibilitiesConducts or leads small technical projects or technical tasks within larger projects, ensuring delivery within schedule and budget constraintsSupports system architecture, interface definition, integration, verification, validation, and test-planning activitiesAnalyzes requirements and system performance and supports the development and evaluation of technical alternativesBuilds and maintains relationships with internal and external clients; presents technical and research results through formal and informal presentationsPerforms advanced systems engineering research and analysisPrepares technical specifications and analyzes technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for evaluating requirements and system performancePerforms complex assignments by compiling and evaluating design and test dataAnalyzes and interprets collected technical data to support engineering decisions and recommendationsConducts quality-control reviews, performs data reporting, and prepares and reviews technical documentsMay provide technical direction to and coordinate the efforts of engineers and technical support staffCommunicates with clients regarding the schedule and quality of assigned deliverablesApplies systems engineering techniques and processes to support project objectives within established constraintsMay support Battelle-sponsored conferences, scientific conferences, peer-review panels, publications, or other activities that increase company visibilityKey QualificationsBachelor's degree in a related field with 5 years of experience, a master's degree in a related field with 2 years of experience, or a PhD; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related fieldDemonstrated experience applying systems engineering methodologies throughout the system lifecycleExperience developing, decomposing, allocating, tracing, and verifying requirements using recognized systems engineering practices and standards such as INCOSE guidance, ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, or EARSExperience supporting system integration, verification, validation, and testing activities and creating associated artifactsExperience performing complex systems engineering analyses involving requirements, system performance, design data, or test dataExperience preparing technical specifications, reports, presentations, or other engineering artifactsExperience analyzing and interpreting technical data to support engineering decisions and recommendationsStrong understanding of systems engineering processes, including requirements development, architecture design, integration, verification, validation, risk management, and technical planningExperience working within multidisciplinary engineering teamsStrong analytical, technical-writing, communication, presentation, and problem-solving skillsAbility to communicate technical results and deliverable status effectively to internal and external clientsU.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearancePreferred QualificationsExperience supporting Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Energy (DOE), National Security, Nuclear, Aerospace, or other highly regulated technical programsExperience with MBSE and digital engineering toolsets such as Cameo Systems Modeler (MagicDraw), IBM Rhapsody, Teamcenter, Windchill, Cradle, or similar toolsExperience with requirements-management tools such as IBM DOORS, DOORS Next, Polarion, or similar requirements-management platformsExperience conducting or leading small technical projects or technical tasks within larger projectsActive DoD Secret security clearanceCompensation DataBattelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $105,000 – $150,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
