Career Development Coordinator Job Summary: Engineering Career Services (ECS) is a small and dedicated team focused on serving all students in the College and our alumni. This team supports engineering students in getting internships, co-ops, and full-time jobs. The Career Services Advisor
- Coaches students in the College of Engineering on career-driven topics such as career preparation/readiness skills, search strategies, resumes/cover letters, interviewing, social media and networking optimization, job offers, and negotiations
- Guides students on identifying and developing their professional skills and networks through industry-supported projects, connections with student leaders, industry representatives, and alumni networks.
- Supports the expansion of Engineering Career Services (ECS) reach and foster ongoing academic and career collaboration with key unit liaisons and advisors (e.g., Engineering Student Center Advisors, Undergraduate Academic Advising, Graduate Student Services)
- Participates in planning and executing complex events and programs such as off-campus student visits to industry partners, student experience showcases, major & career exploration events, and alumni/student networking sessions.
- Collects and maintains student & program records, including meetings and student progress, as well as career engagement data for select program areas.
- Educates students on professional work opportunities and employment trends.
- Utilizes and supports career-related technologies and tools.
- Assists with designated administrative processes (e.g., respond to student emails and voicemails, Handshake, 12Twenty, Marketing and Communication).
- Experiential learning pathways (including off-campus student visits to industry partners, student experience showcases and industry-supported student projects)
- Career exploration pathways (including exploration events with alumni and current students, development and management of a career exploration canvas course, orientation sessions for newly-declared students, and collaboration on securing research opportunities for early students)
- Graduate pathways (including programming series focused on the graduate school application process, supporting career development as a graduate student, and establishing an graduate alumni network to foster connections between current and past graduate students)
- Works to support the idea of engineering for all in all Academic Affairs practices and procedures; supports and enhances a climate of inclusive excellence for students and colleagues
- Career exploration pathways (including exploration events with alumni and current students, development and management of a career exploration canvas course, orientation sessions for newly declared students, and collaboration on securing research opportunities for early students)
- Graduate pathways (including programming series focused on the graduate school application process, supporting career development as a graduate student, and establishing a graduate alumni network to foster connections between current and past graduate students)
- Experiential learning pathways (including off-campus student visits to industry partners, student experience showcases and industry-supported student projects)
- Participates in the campus-wide career services community, providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college/unit
- May identify and maintain a professional network of employers or other stakeholders to facilitate career exploration and employment opportunities for students
- Responds to questions and provides information regarding student services, policies, procedures, and employment preparation
- Develops and delivers career development programming and resource materials across various mediums to provide education to students
- Educates or advises students and recent alumni individually or in groups through various mediums about career exploration, self-assessment, skills, materials development, and career decisions
Required Qualifications:
- At least 1 year (12 months) working in higher education post degree completion in a student-facing/student services role (e.g., academic advising, residence life)
- Demonstrated experience creating, developing and managing programs for college students
- Experience working effectively in teams and independently
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality work while balancing multiple priorities and managing deadlines
- Ability to work flexible and extended hours, including some nights and weekends
- Demonstrated experience advising students in auniversity career services or academic advising unit
- Proficiency with web-based resources,software, and social media (e.g. Handshake, 12Twenty, Microsoft Excel, Google Forms,LinkedIn)
- Demonstrated presentation, professionalism, and project management skills
- Demonstrated experience working with students, including international students
- Exemplary customer service, communication, and collaboration
- Demonstrated experience creating, developing and managing programs for college students
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality work while balancing multiple priorities and managing deadlines
