The Department handles all state criminal appeals cases and assists district attorneys with complex criminal cases at their request. Additionally, the Department of Justice includes the North Carolina State Crime Lab, the North Carolina Justice Academy, and the Sheriffs’ and Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Divisions.**Description of Work**Recruitment Range: $76,041 - $88,119 IMPORTANT NOTE: This posting closes at 11:59:59 PM the night BEFORE the End Date listed. This position handles litigation and appeals involving Medicaid and other programs of public assistance in the Office of Administrative Hearings and State superior and appellate courts. The types of litigation that are handled by this position include defending actions brought by Medicaid recipients and applicant challenging decisions related to services and eligibility. This position serves as attorney for the State when convicted criminals appeal from judgments entered pursuant to trial or engages in other post-conviction practice, including motions for appropriate relief, stay of sentence and writ of supersedeas. \*\*Some travel, including some occasional overnight stays are required\*\***Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences****Management Preferences:*** Experience with litigation including legal drafting, discovery and motions drafting and practice, preparing exhibits for trial.* Experience practicing before the Office of Administrative Hearings or other administrative tribunals.* Knowledge of Medicaid and other public assistance programs.**Minimum Education and Experience**Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.
