Senior AccountantKemper, a publicly-traded, multi-billion dollar insurance and financial services company, seeks a talented and motivated individual to join our Corporate Accounting team at our headquarters in downtown Chicago.The Senior Accountant is a fantastic role for a strong performer who is looking to greatly expand their knowledge of ledgers, consolidation, and SEC/GAAP/statutory financial reporting within the P&C segment of an insurance company. Kemper has a proven track record for developing its people for higher roles within the department as well as other functions and across its operating entities. We seek an analytical and detail-oriented professional to assist with a wide range of monthly, quarterly and annual P&C accounting functions associated with Kemper's financial reporting.Position Responsibilities:Prepare and review monthly journal entriesPrepare and/or review monthly account reconciliationsConsolidate company operating information for internal and external financial reportingWork with internal and external auditors and provide necessary supportPrepare analytical schedules, analyze variances, and provide support for internal requestsActively identify, lead, manage, and complete process improvement projectsPrepare quarterly and annual financial statementsPrepare and/or review quarterly statutory-basis financial statementsAdditional responsibilities, as assignedPosition Requirements:BA/BS degree in Accounting3-5 years of industry or public accounting experienceCPA or CPA candidate preferredFamiliarity with US GAAP, familiarity with statutory accounting principles is a plusExperience navigating a large ERP environmentProficiency in MS Office products - intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS ExcelExperience in Workday and Blackline a strong plusAbility to identify, analyze and solve accounting issuesEffective writing skills and strong attention to detail requiredStrong analytical, organizational, and time management skillsProgressive thinking skills, a strong work ethic, and a knack for innovative solutionsExcellent communication skills to interact with varying levels of management and professional staffThe range for this position is $70,000 to $117,000.
