Community Outreach Coordinator

Position Title: Community Outreach Coordinator (part time, year round) Reporting Relationship: Chief Program Officer (CPO) Posting Date: August 2026 Organization: Founded in 2011, Evanston Scholars (ES) is a non-profit organization that improvescollege access and success for a diverse group of ambitious Evanston Township High School students who are traditionally first-generation college entrants, low-income, and/or studentsofcolor, starting in the junior year of high school with the college admissions process and continuing through college graduation and career launch. Our comprehensive, six-year program offers staff-led college counseling workshops, test prep, and college success and career readiness education to support students to get to and through college. ES maintains a close relationship with Evanston Township High School and works to engage with the Evanston community at large. Each student is matched with a volunteer mentor from the community. Mentors are asked to support Scholars through the last two years of high school and first two years of college. We work with various community partners to share knowledge and support first-generation college students and first-generation professionals. The program has served over 500 students, selecting 50-60 new rising high school juniors annually. Evanston Scholars Website. Location: 1234 Sherman Ave., Suite 214 Evanston IL 60202 Position Description: This in-person role serves as a vital connection between the Evanston Scholars program and key community stakeholders, including mentors, community partner organizations, schools, and families. The position is responsible for recruiting and supporting volunteer mentors, matching mentors with Scholars, and collaborating with the Chief Program Officer (CPO) to coordinate mentor training and ongoing development. In addition, this role coordinates Evanston Scholars' participation in community outreach events and manages communications with community partners and stakeholders to strengthen engagement and visibility. A key strategic priority for Evanston Scholars is to increase awareness of the program among younger students and their families. Working closely with the Chief Program Officer, this position will help establish and strengthen partnerships with District 65 (D65), District 202 (D202), and other community organizations. This role will assist with expanding the organization's visibility and recognition throughout the Evanston community, helping to build a strong pipeline of future Scholars. Communication Manage the plan for communicating with all high school and college Mentors Act as liaison with both College Access Director and College Success Directors to build a culture of connection between Mentors and high school and college Scholars Support maintenance of the Mentor email account Maintain connections with community partners – including but not limited to Y.O.U., Northwestern University, Northlight Theater Outreach to the Evanston and surrounding communities to establish new partnerships to increase exposure to the organization Mentor Recruitment and Programming Work with CPO to carry out Mentor recruitment plan Work with CPO to provide 2-4 mentor trainings each year Solicit mentor feedback throughout the year Aggregate feedback and report back to help improve Scholar/Mentor experience Report to CPO when interventions are necessary Maintain master data for both Mentor applicants and current Mentors Identify special events and counseling resources at ETHS and connect Scholars Identify opportunities for Evanston Scholars to participate in events to expand our outreach Help set up, execute and attend 10-12 special events as needed Assist with any Outreach events for 8th and 9th graders Maintain the Community and Mentor Resources pages for ES Website Maintain the ES Community Outreach calendar of events Cultivate and share resources with volunteers to assist with community understanding of first-generation, Pell-eligible, and student of color experience Skills and Personal Characteristics Enthusiastic, patient, persistent, professional, resourceful, and adaptable Strong DEIJ experience. Ability and desire to engage in DEI-related discussions and incorporate a DEIJ lens in all written materials. Highly organized with an ability to juggle multiple tasks and stay flexible Excellent written and oral communication skills Strong attention to detail Thrives as a member of a dynamic and highly-collaborative small team Desire to help ambitious youth find success in college. Experience with Zoom, Google Hangouts, texting, and FaceTime Qualifications: Ability to work independently with little supervision Experience working with low-income, first-generation to college, and underrepresented minority students is preferred Experience in coaching, training, or organizing Experience in a non-profit organization is preferred Successful track record of meeting deadlines and achieving goals Experience with Salesforce is a plus Familiarity with the Evanston community is a plus Ability to work occasional nights and weekends Ability to carry approximately 15-20 lbs Ability to traverse a flight of stairs Salary and Benefits This is a part-time, exempt position, 20 hours/week, with a hybrid of in person and remote work. The salary range is $20,000--25,000 annually.
