Certified Operating Room Technician

Job Summary:

The Certified Operating Room (OR) Technician / Surgical Tech supports surgical services by preparing operating rooms, assisting during surgical procedures, and ensuring a sterile environment. This role requires a minimum of three years of experience, with preference for five years, and involves collaboration with surgical teams to provide efficient, safe patient care. The technician must be adaptable to float between units and respond to call requirements. Responsibilities:

• Prepare operating rooms by setting up surgical instruments and equipment.
• Assist surgeons and surgical staff during procedures by passing instruments and supplies.
• Maintain sterile field and ensure adherence to infection control protocols.
• Manage inventory of surgical supplies and equipment.
• Support patient positioning and transport within the surgical suite.
• Respond to call and float as needed to meet unit demands.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure efficient surgical workflow.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum of 3 years surgical tech experience; 5 years preferred.
• Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech credentials.
• Ability to work in an acute care surgical environment.
• Strong knowledge of sterile techniques and surgical instrumentation.
• Willingness to participate in call and float assignments.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• California state license preferred; pending license accepted.
• Experience working in facilities with multiple operating rooms and high daily census.
• Familiarity with acute care hospital protocols and surgical specialties.

Special Considerations:

• Call coverage required.
• Float between units as needed.
• RTO restrictions limit assignments to no more than 7 consecutive days.
• Weekend work as per unit needs.
• Scrub attire or business casual dress code.

Scheduling:

• Shift assignments based on unit needs and surgical schedules.
• Weekend shifts required.
• Flexible scheduling to accommodate call and float responsibilities.
