ADCCO Paving Contractors
Job Description
Job Description
About Us:
ADCCO Paving Contractors is a Middle Tennessee–based asphalt paving company built on over 40 years of industry experience. We specialize in high-quality asphalt paving and aggregate base preparation. Our team takes pride in strong field leadership, consistent execution, and a safety-first culture. As we continue to grow, we are seeking experienced leaders who can take ownership of crews and deliver high-quality results on every job.
SUMMARY:
The Estimator is a detail-oriented, organized professional responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and supporting the development of competitive bids for asphalt paving projects. Working closely with project management and field leadership, this person conducts site visits to gather measurements and assess project scope, then translates that information into clear, accurate estimates. This is an entry-level position, and the company is prepared to train the right candidate on estimating processes, industry standards, and tools. Strong math and organizational skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn are essential for success in this role.
Requirements:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate's or bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required. 0-2 years of related experience is expected, as this is an entry-level role with training provided. A working knowledge of basic construction math and measurement (area, volume, tonnage) is important; prior exposure to asphalt paving, construction, or the trades is a plus but not required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) is essential, and willingness to learn estimating and project management software (such as Procore or similar tools) is required. A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to travel to job sites on a regular basis.
SKILLS:
• Strong math and measurement skills, with the ability to accurately calculate quantities such as square yards, tonnage, and material needs
• High attention to detail and accuracy in preparing estimates and documentation
• Ability to read and interpret site plans, drawings, and project specifications (or strong aptitude to learn)
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple estimates at once
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Willingness and aptitude to learn estimating software and industry-standard tools
• Basic understanding of construction safety standards, or willingness to learn
• Comfortable working both independently in the field and collaboratively in the office
• Experience with construction estimating software, digital takeoff tools, or platforms such as PlanSwift is preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct site visits to take measurements, assess project scope, and gather photos and notes to support accurate estimating
• Prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates for asphalt paving projects (patching, sealcoating, striping, milling, etc.) based on site data and client specifications
•Prepare and submit accurate, competitive, and compliant bids.
• Communicate with clients, vendors, and suppliers to gather pricing information and material costs
• Maintain organized and up-to-date estimate files, proposals, and supporting documentation
• Track and compare estimated versus actual material, labor, and production costs to help improve historical pricing data and future estimate accuracy.
• Collaborate with project management and field leadership to confirm project scope and specifications
• Development proposals and bid packages, ensuring accuracy and professional presentation
• Follow up on submitted bids and assist in tracking bid status
• Perform other duties as assigned by Project Manager
• Perform quantity takeoffs from plans, specifications, site measurements, and other project documents.
• Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to identify project scope, requirements, assumptions, exclusions, and potential discrepancies.
• Solicit and compare pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors as needed to support accurate estimates.
• Track bid deadlines and ensure estimates, proposals, and required bid documentation are completed accurately and submitted on time.
• Participate in the handoff of awarded projects to project and operations teams, communicating estimated quantities, scope, assumptions, exclusions, and other relevant bid information.
EXPECTATIONS:
• Timeliness, prioritization, organization, and attention to detail
• Willingness to learn and grow into a more advanced estimating role over time
• Ability to work independently in the field while staying closely coordinated with management
• Commitment to the company's Purpose, Vision, and Values
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and manage competing deadlines
• Self-starter with a positive attitude and strong problem-solving abilities
OTHER:
• Walk, sit for extended periods of time; occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
• Ability to work with computers and office technology for extended periods.
• Visual acuity sufficient to read blueprints, diagrams, and project documents
• Ability to adapt to changing schedules, job site conditions, and unexpected project changes
• Flexibility to adapt to changing deadlines, priorities, and business needs
Compensation & Benefits:
• Competitive pay based on experience and qualifications
• Opportunities for growth and advancement based on performance
• Safety-focused environment with PPE provided
• Health, dental, and vision insurance options
• Paid time off, holidays, and leave (including parental and bereavement)
• Company-paid life and critical illness insurance
What We're Looking For:
• A dependable, detail-oriented professional who takes pride in producing accurate, thorough work
• A team player who communicates well and works effectively with project managers, field teams, vendors, and customers
• Someone who is organized, able to manage multiple priorities, and follows through on deadlines and commitments
• A motivated individual who is willing to learn, ask questions, and continue developing their estimating and construction knowledge
• Someone who can review plans, specifications, and project details carefully to identify scope, quantities, and potential issues
• A person who takes ownership of their work and understands the importance of accuracy in the estimating process
