Phlebotomist - Part Time Day Shift (Tuesday - Saturday 4:00 AM - 8:00 AM)

Position Summary Phlebotomists collect blood specimens from inpatients and outpatients while adhering to established protocols to ensure proper sample collection and patient safety. They transport blood specimens to laboratory departments in accordance with proper procedures for transport and handling. In addition, they conduct in‑service education programs related to theories and techniques of phlebotomy, and perform related clerical work. Duties Collect blood specimens from patients through venipuncture, capillary puncture techniques, or incision on the patient's arm. Provide phlebotomy services to patients in various inpatient, outpatient, and offsite areas, following the order of the patient's physician. Enter data concerning blood specimens into a computer database; maintain appointment schedules and logs of patients seen and tests obtained; record test results and file them appropriately; keep work‑related statistics and perform related clerical duties. Supervise, teach, and provide support to medical technology students in both theory and technique of phlebotomy by designing and implementing formal and informal programs of instruction, ensuring that all established protocols and procedures for proper sample collection and patient safety are adhered to. Attend and/or present at related hospital in‑service programs. Maintain proper inventory of supplies and materials needed for the daily collection of blood specimens. Participate in the overall function of the laboratory by assuming occasional substitution to other shifts or working prolonged shifts. Perform other related duties as required or directed. Qualifications Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of experience as a Phlebotomist or a certificate in Phlebotomy from a recognized college, school, training program, hospital, health care facility, or the Armed Services. Preferred: Prior hospital/lab experience and basic understanding of medical laboratory technology. Pre‑employment Requirements Successfully complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services. Complete an electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references. Successfully complete a 4‑panel drug screen. Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings. Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s) or certificate(s). Salary The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $40,391 / year (pro‑rated by part‑time hours). The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience.
