A day in this role
From the first pick ticket to the final label, you’ll keep books moving accurately and efficiently. You’ll choose the right carton for each order, orient labels so scanners read them instantly, and verify every detail—quantity, ISBN, and product type—before the shipment leaves the floor. When one area slows and another gets busy, you’ll pivot to where you’re needed most, all while keeping your workspace spotless and safe.
What you’ll handle- Select the appropriately sized shipping carton for each order.
- Apply labels to cartons so they are correctly aligned for system scanners.
- Pick and stage product for shipment; verify correct quantity, ISBN, and product type; visually inspect books before packing.
- Record carton adjustments for any short shipments.
- Shift between work locations as workflow fluctuates.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area.
High School diploma or GED.
Language skillsRead and understand simple instructions, safety guidelines, and memos; write legibly; communicate effectively one-on-one.
Math skillsAdd, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Other abilitiesBasic computer and keyboarding skills; ability to learn and use a Warehouse Management System (WMS).
Physical demands- Regularly bend, stoop, walk, stand, use hands to handle objects/tools/controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk/hear.
- Occasionally climb stairs or sit.
- Routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
