You'll work closely with Finance, Production, Procurement, and Project Management to understand where costs are coming from, identify discrepancies, and provide information that helps the business make better decisions.This is a strong opportunity for an accountant who enjoys going beyond basic general ledger work and wants to understand how products are made, what they cost, and where the company can improve profitability.Key ResponsibilitiesManufacturing Cost Analysis:Analyze material, labor, production, and overhead costs to help identify trends and areas for improvementPrepare cost accounting reports and provide analysis to support operational and financial decisionsReview production costs and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and cost reductionStandard Costing & Variance Analysis:Calculate and maintain standard costs for products and manufacturing activitiesAnalyze cost variances and investigate the underlying causesWork with operational teams to understand significant changes in material, labor, and overhead costsInventory Accounting & Reconciliation:Monitor inventory transactions and ensure costs are accurately capturedPerform inventory reconciliations and research discrepanciesSupport accurate inventory valuation and related financial reportingFinancial Analysis & Profitability:Perform profitability and cost-benefit analysis on products, projects, and operational activitiesProvide financial insight to help management evaluate costs and potential savingsIdentify trends and communicate findings clearly to Finance and operational leadershipMonth-End Close & Accounting:Support month-end and year-end closing activities related to inventory and manufacturing costsPrepare reconciliations, reports, and supporting schedulesEnsure accounting activity is accurate and consistent with company policies and applicable accounting standardsCross-Functional Collaboration & Process Improvement:Partner with Production, Procurement, Project Management, and Finance to improve cost visibility and efficiencyHelp develop and maintain cost accounting processes and proceduresIdentify opportunities to improve reporting, systems, and overall cost-accounting accuracyQualificationsEducation: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related fieldExperience: 2+ years of cost accounting, manufacturing accounting, or financial analysis experience Manufacturing or production-environment experience is strongly preferredTechnical Skills: Strong understanding of accounting principles and U.S. GAAP Experience with inventory accounting, standard costs, and variance analysis Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Experience with ERP systems is a plusAnalytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze financial and operational data Comfortable investigating variances and identifying the reasons behind cost changes Strong problem-solving and organizational skillsWork Style: Detail-oriented and committed to financial accuracy Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Comfortable working independently while collaborating across departmentsCommunication: Able to clearly communicate financial findings to both accounting and non-accounting team members Strong written and verbal communication skillsWork EnvironmentThis position is primarily office-based within a manufacturing environment, with regular interaction with production and operational teams. The role requires extended periods working at a computer, with occasional visits to the manufacturing floor.
