Safety Coordinator
GW Systems
GW Systems | Birmingham, AL (with travel to active job sites) Full-time | Supporting GW Systems, Liberty Construction Services & GW Electric About the Opportunity Safety is most important to GW Systems. From start to finish, every job begins and ends with safety first. We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Safety Coordinator who is passionate about protecting people and building a proactive safety culture. In this role, you will support comprehensive safety programs across GW Systems, Liberty Construction Services (industrial concrete, steel erection, and mechanical construction), and GW Electric. The position has a strong emphasis on MSHA compliance, field execution on active job sites, employee training, audits, incident support, and insurance coordination. You will work closely with project managers, field supervisors, craft teams, and leadership to ensure safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across multiple affiliated companies. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being in the field, coaching teams, and making a direct impact on daily operations. Key Responsibilities Develop, coordinate, and deliver MSHA-compliant training programs in accordance with Parts 46, 48A, and 48B, including new-hire orientation, annual refresher training, task‑specific training, and site‑specific hazard awareness for all employees across the three companies. Maintain and regularly update training plans, records, and documentation to ensure full regulatory compliance. Assist with obtaining, tracking, and managing required safety certifications, including crane operators, rigging, CPR/First Aid, and other specialized certifications as needed. Create, distribute, and maintain all necessary safety documentation and materials, such as Job Safety Analysis (JSA) forms, inspection books, weekly safety meeting topics, training records, and pre‑project safety packages. Collaborate with project managers and clients to provide required safety documentation for new or high‑risk projects. Identify, support, and develop competent persons responsible for daily inspections, pre‑task planning, and safety meetings. Conduct regular field and shop audits of crews, job sites, equipment, and facilities to verify compliance with company policies, MSHA standards, and client requirements. Identify hazards, document findings, and work with operations to implement timely corrective actions. Coach and mentor employees and craft personnel on safe work behaviors and best practices; promote ownership of the safety program and encourage proactive hazard reporting. Support the full lifecycle of incident and claim management, including workers’ compensation, vehicle, and property damage claims. Assist with investigations, root cause analysis, documentation, lessons learned, and implementation of corrective measures. Serve as the primary safety contact during annual insurance compliance and premium audits (workers’ compensation, general liability, auto, and equipment). Prepare documentation and participate in safety‑related portions of the audits with external auditors and insurance representatives. Oversee and support shop safety training programs and maintain safety compliance for company‑owned facilities and properties. Collaborate daily with project management, field operations, and craft teams to review work plans, identify risks, and reinforce safe execution of work. Support the use of Stop Work Authority when conditions require it. Track safety performance indicators, maintain organized compliance files and records, and prepare regular safety reports and recommendations for leadership. Stay current on changes to MSHA, OSHA, and other applicable regulations; recommend updates to internal safety programs and procedures as needed. What We’re Looking For 3–5+ years of progressive hands‑on safety experience in construction, industrial, heavy civil, or mining‑related environments. Experience supporting multiple job sites or companies is a plus. Strong working knowledge of MSHA Parts 46 and 48 regulations, training requirements, and compliance programs. MSHA instructor certification is highly desirable. Demonstrated experience delivering safety training, conducting site audits and inspections, performing job hazard analyses (JSA), and supporting incident investigations and claims management. Familiarity with heavy equipment safety requirements, crane and rigging operations, and fleet/vehicle safety programs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to coach, train, and influence employees at all levels. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities across different companies and locations. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; willingness and ability to travel regularly to active construction sites and facilities in varying conditions. CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) certification preferred. Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively as part of a team. Strong work ethic and commitment to getting the job done safely and correctly. Why Join Our Team? You will play a key role in protecting our workforce while supporting high-quality industrial construction and electrical projects. We value safety, quality, and teamwork, and we are committed to providing a challenging and rewarding work environment with opportunities for growth. #J-18808-Ljbffr
