Office Technician (Typing) - Team Support

Job Description and Duties

The Department of Justice Legal Support Operations is currently seeking a well-rounded, friendly individual to fill our Office Technician (Typing) Team Support position.

Under the immediate supervision of a Legal Support Supervisor I (LSSI), the Office Technician will assist legal secretaries in preparing documents in accordance with ProLaw for court filing. Duties include scanning, transcribing, typing, processing, storing, retrieving, verifying and editing legal documents and correspondence, such as, petitions, briefs, opinions, pleadings, motions, and related legal documents, as well as preparing exhibit tabs. The Office Technician will also aid in Bates numbering and indexing complex cases, photocopying and faxing documents, preparing envelopes and labels, and arranging messenger and shipping services.

This role requires independently and proactively completing tasks that are often of a confidential nature. The ideal candidate will proficiently operate computer programs such as Adobe Acrobat, ProLaw, and Microsoft Office applications (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams), and will assist in opening and closing case files while coordinating with other work units. Lifting boxes up to 25 pounds may be required.

Working Conditions

This position requires working in the office Monday through Friday, with no option for telework.

Special Requirements

• The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. • Fingerprint check will be required.

The ideal candidate must show proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office applications (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams). Daily responsibilities include the proficient operation of standard office equipment such as copiers, printers, and scanners. Prior experience working in a law office and familiarity with ProLaw or a comparable case management software is preferred.
