Project Manager - Environmental Studies (Denver)

Description Burns & McDonnell’s Mountain Region is seeking a Project Manager for our Environmental Services Global Practice. The technical areas encompassed by this position include environmental studies, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis, federal and state environmental permitting, local land use permitting, siting/routing studies and state public utility commission siting, and other various environmental services. This position provides the opportunity to challenge and grow professionally within one of the industry’s leading firms. Be on a team that solves our clients’ issues and problems for environmental and engineering practices in the project planning and development, permitting, design, and remediation service space. This individual will enhance our existing environmental studies, permitting, NEPA, and routing/siting presence in the region working closely with established clients across multiple markets. Additionally, the ideal candidate will help expand our environmental studies, permitting, NEPA, and routing/siting services and client base in the region. The candidate should have an established and successful history managing and leading tasks for both small and large-scale environmental studies, permitting, routing/siting, NEPA and related projects, including but not limited to assisting with developing proposals and cost estimates, executing project tasks, managing project budgets and forecasts, delivering client satisfaction, and mentoring staff for a variety of industry types including power generation, electric transmission and distribution, water, and others. Responsibilities Project management, team leadership, management & mentoring of junior staff. Preparing NEPA documentation and Federal and state documentation for all types and sizes of environmental projects. Leading the NEPA compliance process on behalf of Federal agencies and our clients. Preparing local land use and development permit applications, including 1041 permitting in Colorado, and representing clients at land use approval hearings. Preparing routing and siting studies and evaluations. Preparing state and Federal energy facility siting/licensing applications. Business development and networking. Assisting with and leading proposal and cost estimating efforts for environmental studies projects. Regularly interface with various agencies, clients, and team members. Executing project tasks, managing project budgets and forecasts, and delivering client satisfaction. Demonstrating creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems. Developing, cultivating, and strengthening relationships with clients. Other duties as assigned. Regulatory Knowledge and Experience Qualified candidates will have experience in the following areas and with the regulatory requirements and processes of the following agencies: National Environmental Policy Act. State and Local Environmental and Land Use Permitting. Energy Facility Siting and Licensing. U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Bureau of Land Management. U.S. Forest Service. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. State Wildlife Agencies. Federal and state historic preservation agencies. Specific experience in electric transmission, power generation, and other similar markets is preferred. Experience with the resources and regulatory agencies in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West is a requirement. Local, regional, and national knowledge and relationships with own existing clients is preferred. Qualifications B.S. or M.S. in environmental sciences, natural sciences, planning or related degree from an accredited program. Applicable years of experience may be substituted for the degree requirement. Minimum 7 years of related consulting experience in a wide variety of areas ranging from leading and managing technical teams, project management and business development (including 7 or more years managing environmental projects) and must also be able to effectively balance their direct and indirect utilization rates. Local, regional, and national knowledge and relationships with own existing clients are strongly preferred. Demonstrated technical competence and project experience in natural, cultural, or socioeconomic resource fields applicable to industrial (primarily conventional or renewable energy generation/transmission) siting and licensing and environmental permitting projects. Must have the ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of industry, government, and public contracts on project-related matters. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to attract and retain clients and build a backlog, revenue, profit, direct labor, and return on investment (ROI) over time. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are required to develop and maintain relationships. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Working understanding of GIS. Excellent writing skills. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite. Strong experience working with both private and public-sector clients. Client relationship development experience is a plus. Compensation $130,000.00-235,000.00 Yearly The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
