About this Role:

Under close supervision of the Supervisor I, the incumbent performs research, analysis, review, and correspondence tasks necessary to enable Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) to claim for available federal funds for School-Based Medi-Cal Administrative Activities (SMAA) through Local Education Consortias (LECs). Participants of the SMAA Program are eligible to receive federal reimbursement for providing administrative activities to Medi-Cal eligible students. This position will serve as support staff processing a variety of complex documents and, as such, requires both efficient typing protocol and proficiency in the use of personal computers/office equipment, and the Microsoft Office Suite, most importantly Excel, Access and Word. The chosen candidate must exercise a high degree of initiative, pay special attention to performing assigned duties, and maintain an environment of organization.

Telework and Salary Information

This position is currently eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change consistent with DHCS’ Telework Program and Government Code sections 14200 – 14203. Telework is available to California residents, and proof of residency may be required. 

Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated office and residence subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the reporting location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Please note, the salary posted reflects a full-time schedule; however, this position is part-time. If selected, the team member will be compensated hourly based on actual hours worked. The anticipated schedule is approximately (20-30) hours per week. Student Assistants may not exceed 1,500 hours of work within 12 months from their first date of employment.

Salary: Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the temporary Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee receive a temporary reduction in pay in exchange for PLP 2025 leave credits. The temporary salary reduction percentage and the number of PLP 2025 leave credits are based on the position’s associated bargaining unit.
