POSITION : Case Manager – Domestic Violence Advocate (DVA); (FT, Non-Exempt)

REPORTS TO :  DVA Supervisor

COMPENSATION: $25 to $30/hr. depending on skills and experience level

JOB SUMMARY: 

ICAN, located in San Jose, CA, is looking for a bilingual and bicultural English/Vietnamese or English/Spanish Case Manager to support our Domestic Violence Service to CalWORKs Clients. The ideal candidate will be providing direct services and intensive case management to clients, children, and family members impacted by domestic abuse issues/barriers. 

This individual must be: 

1. a self-starter; 
2. highly organized and detail oriented with strong communication skills; 
3. experienced in case management; 
4. understanding of and sensitive to the needs of clients, children and family members impacted by domestic abuse issues/barriers; and 
5. able to work flexibly, creatively, and with a growth mindset.

The DVA Case Manager must meet all the below required qualifications and experience to provide Domestic Violence Services to CalWORKS participants: 

1. Knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse/violence, and experience in

working with domestic abuse/violence victims/survivors;

1. Experience in counseling and crisis intervention;
2. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to create and maintain productive working relationships with clients, co-workers, community agency staff, and public. 
3. Ability to analyze data, prepare written reports, and give presentations;
4. Knowledge of social work; theories, principals, objectives, and techniques;
5. Possession of valid California driver license and clean driving record;
6. Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese

ICAN was founded in 2000 by three refugees of the Vietnam War with the mission to lend a helping hand to the families, friends, neighbors and fellow countrymen whom they left behind. While still maintaining our commitment to our charitable projects in Vietnam, ICAN has evolved throughout the years into an organization that supports and strengthens the local Vietnamese community in the Bay Area. Our US-based programs include positive parenting workshops, baby care classes, and kindergarten readiness programs. We also have community support programs such as: Women’ support group, Senior Support Group, Homelessness Prevention Program, Cultural Broker, Digital Literacy, Youth Financial Literacy, to name a few. The mission of ICAN is to inform, engage, and inspire Vietnamese Americans to help raise the next generation of caring leaders through humanitarian programs, culturally responsive social programs, and community–based research.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Provide assessment, orientation, crisis intervention and on-going counseling services.
2. Develop Service Plans with appropriate activities and services.
3. Maintain dated counseling records documenting client contact, and status of engagement services in case files.
4. Provide information and refer participants to supportive services.
5. Provide referrals and confirm placement into DV services at other community organizations to provide DV services.
6. Coordinate ongoing check-in sessions with participants at a minimum of twice per month to ensure follow through and progress.
7. Maintain a waitlist once caseload reaches capacity of 25.
8. Seek, develop, and maintain information and resources on DV services in the community. 
9. Prepare and present training/information sessions to CalWORKs Staff and partners to assist in identifying CalWORKs clients who may need services.
10. Monitor participant’s progress with the goal to refer participant to full time or part time participation in CalWORKs Welfare to Work (WTW) activities;
11. Submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. 
12. Attend monthly meetings such as: CalWORKs Advisory Meetings, and mandatory trainings as required.
13. Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION & SKILLS :

• Four-year degree in social work preferred or related degree with case management experience.
• Strong organizational skills; ability to plan, organize, prioritize and multi-task. Ability to work with little direct supervision.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to deliver difficult messages with compassion and to communicate respectfully with families in stressful situations.
• Ability to thrive in a flexible, fast-paced environment, while maintaining a positive, solution-oriented approach
• Computer skills including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite, Adobe, and the ability to quickly learn and develop proficiency with tracking database systems

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES :

• Candidate should be passionate and have commitment to building communities and promoting civic engagement. 
• Candidate should have a willingness to learn and a growth mindset. 
• Experience working with persons from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds who are economically disadvantaged. 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS : 

• Must be able to lift 25 pounds as the service is sometimes physical. For example, setting up for events which may require transporting or lifting equipment and materials, e.g., easels, flip charts, refreshments, brochures, chairs, tables, etc.
• Must be able to report to service site on a regular and reliable basis, and able to travel between sites and to attend offsite events throughout the county, as appropriate
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which includes evenings, weekends, and holiday hours, as appropriate, to coordinate and provide services and activities for families during non-traditional hours.

Must possess a valid California Driver’s license, reliable transportation and current auto insurance 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS : 

• Must be at least 18 years of age with permit to work in the US
• Clearance of fingerprint background check 
• Must have valid TB screening and COVID19 Vaccination
