Biomedical Equipment Tech III

Biomedical Equipment Technician III – Atlantic Health (Morristown, NJ) Full‑time field service position responsible for advanced repair, installation, calibration, and maintenance of high‑risk and non‑high‑risk medical equipment across multiple locations in North Central and Northern New Jersey. Responsibilities Perform advanced repair, installation, and calibration of complex medical equipment, including high‑risk devices. Execute preventive maintenance inspections, scheduled maintenance, electrical safety inspections, and operation verification per manufacturer procedures. Use hand tools and test equipment (digital multimeter, electrical safety analyzer, pressure gauges, ESU analyzer, defibrillator tester, patient simulator, infusion pump tester) to troubleshoot and service equipment. Inform supervisors of repair status, inspection findings, unusual equipment situations, and customer concerns. Lead, train, and supervise BMET II, BMET I technicians, interns, and subcontractor/vendor service technicians. Document all activities and ensure vendor documentation is complete and timely. Assist with special projects and deliver detailed technical knowledge to department representatives, leadership, and senior leadership. Maintain current knowledge of the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP), The Joint Commission, NFPA, and other regulatory standards. Evaluate accuracy of the equipment database, preventive maintenance schedules, and service history. Review and verify documentation submitted by BMET II and BMET I. Resolve complex customer service issues and complaints escalated from lower‑level technicians. Provide 24‑hour on‑call repair support as required. Support laboratory systems, networked medical equipment systems, and connected medical equipment. Apply project management concepts and methods to support equipment service initiatives. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience in biomedical equipment technology. Advanced knowledge of medical equipment systems and devices, medical PCs, peripherals, and clinical network applications. Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology with emphasis on clinical application and troubleshooting. Strong understanding of preventative maintenance schedules, electrical safety, and regulatory compliance. Experience using test instruments and hand tools listed above. Demonstrated ability to train junior technicians and manage subcontractor work. Excellent communication skills for interacting with customers, department representatives, and leadership. Comfortable performing field work across multiple locations and handling 24‑hour on‑call duties. Knowledge of project management methods.
