Job Description

The Forklift Operator safely operates powered industrial trucks to move raw materials, components, and finished products throughout a manufacturing facility. This role directly supports production efficiency by ensuring materials are accurately staged, transported, and stored in the right locations and delivered on time to production lines, storage areas, and loading docks.

Responsibilities

• Transport raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods between production lines, storage areas, and loading docks in a safe and efficient manner.
• Operate sit-down forklifts to move pallets and materials within the warehouse and manufacturing facility.
• Handle materials and inventory with care to prevent damage while loading, unloading, and relocating pallets on and off trucks, racks, and staging areas.
• Use RF scanners and related warehouse management or ERP systems to scan, label, and record material movements accurately.
• Conduct basic quality checks by inspecting materials for damage, verifying quantities, and reporting any discrepancies or issues to the appropriate personnel.
• Perform daily forklift inspections and routine equipment checks, and promptly report mechanical or safety-related issues.
• Maintain clean and organized aisles, follow designated traffic patterns, and adhere to all workplace safety protocols and procedures.
• Support production operations by ensuring materials are staged and available when needed to keep manufacturing processes running smoothly.
• Follow all company policies and OSHA-compliant safety practices when operating forklifts and handling materials.

Essential Skills

• Proven ability to operate sit-down forklifts safely and efficiently in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
• Strong material handling skills, including moving raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods between production lines, storage areas, and loading docks.
• Experience using RF scanners to scan, label, and record material movements in warehouse management or ERP systems.
• Ability to load and unload pallets on and off trucks, racks, and staging areas without causing damage to products or equipment.
• Attention to detail when performing quality checks, including inspecting materials for damage and verifying counts.
• Capability to perform daily forklift inspections and recognize mechanical issues that require reporting or maintenance.
• Commitment to workplace safety, including maintaining clean aisles, following traffic patterns, and adhering to all safety protocols.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a small warehouse environment.
• Familiarity with inventory control and production support processes.
• Comfort working with wholesale distribution of building materials or similar products.
• Basic understanding of OSHA safety practices related to powered industrial trucks and material handling.
• Ability to work collaboratively with production and warehouse teams to support efficient operations.

Work Environment

You will primarily operate sit-down forklifts and use RF scanners and warehouse management or ERP systems to handle and track inventory. The setting emphasizes safety, clean and organized aisles, and adherence to established traffic patterns and protocols while working around production lines, storage areas, and loading docks.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glen Allen, VA.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
