Iron Worker Helper

Iron WorkerAssist skilled craftsmen by performing supportive duties as directed and will work under immediate supervision. Assist in planning, layout, installation, testing, and repair of all types of Iron work any combination of following duties to raise, place, and unite girders, columns, and other structural-steel members to form completed structures or structure frameworks, working as member of crew.Typical duties include:Assemble and secure structural supports according to specificationsPractical knowledge of structural steel assembly and installationUse hand tools to adjust and fasten steel beamsLifting and moving heavy equipment and materials using proper mechanical equipment.Aligns bolt holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member by driving drift pins or handle of wrench through holes.Attaching loads using chains, slings, cables, hooks and other related equipmentIdentify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervision.Must be familiar with crane/rigging hand signalsSkills, knowledge, qualifications, and experience required:Minimum of three (3) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.Must follow company safety procedures and industry known best work practicesA general knowledge of basic hand tools.Must be able to pass Craft proficiency testing at or above 70%Completed the Matrix Service C-Stop Plus Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training.Must obtain and maintain active status within the required drug testing programMust pass a pre-employment background checkMust be able to meet physical demands of the jobPhysical requirements include:Employees will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.Will talk and hear to communicateMust have good dexterity with hands and fingers to perform the precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls.Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull objects, materials, controls and tools.May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off of platforms.
