Director of Development, The Breman Museum & Cultural Center

Job Description (Summary) Moved by the mission of The Breman, the Director of Development will grow our donor base and foster a culture of philanthropy throughout our community. We are seeking someone to build internal and external relationships that enhance our visibility, impact, and overall funding portfolio. The Director of Development will be forward-thinking, intentional, and have a keen ability to develop and implement strategies. The Breman is at a unique time in its history and will soon celebrate a milestone anniversary. The ideal candidate should have experience directing successful annual fundraising campaigns (individual giving, grant management, membership, corporate gifts, event planning, matching gifts, etc.). It is important that this person feels at ease with initiating solicitations and closing significant gifts of $5,000 and up. The development department is charged with raising more than $1 million annually. By continuing a robust stewardship plan, our supporters will feel deeply connected to The Breman. Strong cultivation, writing, and stewardship skills are a must for an individual to be successful in this role. We are eager to welcome a new staff member to join our dedicated, hard-working, and collaborative team. Salary range: $115,000 - $120,000. Duties & Responsibilities Provide organizational leadership as a member of The Breman’s senior leadership team Create a mission-aligned development function in collaboration with the Executive Director Develop big picture fundraising strategies for the museum (short-term and long-term) Strengthen the development department infrastructure Manage and implement a comprehensive development plan that includes a successful annual fund (goals, metrics/impact, donor engagement, membership, prospect cultivation, donor communications, special events, etc.) that yields steady increases year over year Identify, cultivate, and successfully solicit major gifts from a diverse group of individuals, corporations, and foundations. Ensure thoughtful and appropriate stewardship of donors at all gift levels Manage a portfolio of up to 100 major donors and prospects Provide effective management of daily operations that results in a balanced funding portfolio Establish and implement the following funding opportunities for The Breman: Corporate partnerships Planned gift effort (Legacy Society) Young professionals Collaborate with the Membership & Communications Coordinator to increase membership at all levels and develop effective strategies for attracting new members, retaining existing members, and creating appealing benefits and programming. Ensure that tributes, acknowledgement letters, impact reports, and other written materials are prepared and distributed in a timely manner Assist the marketing department with the museum branding effort and writing content for the Annual Report, brochures, one-pagers, newsletters, website, and additional collateral as needed Manage significant Breman events from inception to execution Oversee the foundation and government grant management process along with the lead contractor and work in tandem with staff who assist on this key Breman funding source Support The Breman’s Executive Director with innovative and creative development strategies; Ensure a quick response to all requests from donors, prospects, members, etc. Build, maintain, and enhance relationships with private individuals, foundation representatives, and public grant funders Increase board fundraising efforts to maximize members’ sphere of influence in the community Act as a liaison to the board development committee Establish a strong rapport with museum members Steward existing donors and cultivate prospects as part of the overall development plan Oversee and evaluate all procedures related to prospect identification, donor records, and management of contributions; Perform research quarterly to grow The Breman funding portfolio; Review protocols for entering donor and prospect data into the database (Salesforce); Prepare donor/contact reports and prospect summaries in an accurate and timely manner Oversee the development department budget and fundraising goals; Prepare department reports, statistical data for museum's leadership as requested Motivate, supervise, train, and mentor the development staff; Manage and collaborate with Breman interns, volunteers, contractors, vendors, etc.; Delegate and monitor work assignments as needed Present a positive and professional image of The Breman; Maintain the security and accountability of donated funds and/or assets; Act as an ambassador of The Breman when speaking at events and attending board and staff meetings, museum special events, etc.; Conduct speaking engagements on behalf of the museum Qualifications & Skills 5+ years direct nonprofit development experience and a proven track record working with high-net-worth individuals Knowledge of principles and best practices in fundraising Prior capital campaign leadership experience strongly desired Proven experience in relationship building within the philanthropic community, project management, event planning, budget oversight, database administration, etc. Exceptional communication skills – spoken, digital, and written Strong ethical and confidentiality standard Ability to work with people from a variety of demographic and culturally diverse backgrounds Excellent complex relationship management skills Availability and willingness to work evenings and Sundays throughout the year to support Breman programs and events We recognize that this role requires time outside standard business hours and, when possible, will work collaboratively to provide schedule flexibility in alignment with organizational needs and performance expectations Education Bachelor’s Degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or a related field #J-18808-Ljbffr United Methodist Higher Education Foundation
