Sr Embedded Software Verification & Test Engineer — Lunar Permanance

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Blue Origin’s Lunar RF Systems group is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Verification & Test Engineer to support communications components for our lunar vehicles. In this role you will work with a hard-working team of RF hardware, antenna, DSP, and FPGA engineers.

Our products use FPGAs, microcontrollers, and advanced system-on-chip devices to configure and control RF hardware, perform signal preprocessing, manage communications interfaces, and monitor system health. In this role, you will define and execute the verification strategy for embedded software operating on flight RF hardware, from early development through qualification, acceptance, vehicle integration, and flight support.

You will combine requirements-based verification, test automation, hands-on laboratory debugging, and cross-functional technical leadership to help deliver reliable systems for safe human spaceflight.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

• Develop and maintain software verification strategies, test plans, procedures, and requirements traceability matrix for spaceflight RF components.
• Derive electrical test requirements from system specifications, ICD’s, schematics, and safety requirements.
• Review system, software, interface, and safety requirements for clarity, completeness, and testability.
• Develop automated test frameworks, scripts, test firmware, equipment-control software, and data-analysis tools.
• Perform software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, bench-level, and integrated RF testing.
• Verify functional, performance, timing, interface, startup, fault-management, and recovery requirements.
• Establish objective pass/fail criteria and maintain configuration-controlled test procedures, software, equipment configurations, and results.
• Debug embedded systems using laboratory equipment and software-debug tools.
• Lead anomaly investigations across software, FPGA logic, digital hardware, and RF hardware; drive corrective actions through closure.
• Participate in requirements, design, test-readiness, qualification, and acceptance reviews.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in embedded software in embedded software verification, integration, test, or development.
• Experience converting requirements into traceable test cases, procedures, and objective pass/fail criteria.
• Strong embedded C or C++ development and debugging skills.
• Proficiency with Python or similar languages for test automation, equipment control, and data analysis.
• Experience testing embedded software on microcontroller, FPGA, or SoC based hardware.
• Hands-on experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic or protocol analyzers, power supplies, multimeters, and signal generators.
• Experience debugging across hardware and software using tools such as GDB, JTAG debuggers, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and Wireshark.
• Demonstrated ability to perform root-cause analysis and clearly document test results and anomalies.
• Experience with Git or another modern version-control system and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong technical communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Possessing a Master of Science in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field
• Experience developing or verifying flight software, spacecraft avionics, RF communications systems, or other safety-critical embedded systems.
• Experience applying formal software assurance and configuration-management practices, including DO-178C or comparable aerospace standards.
• Experience with RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators/analyzers, power meters, and attenuators.
• Experience with automated regression frameworks and continuous integration.
• Experience with fault injection, robustness testing, performance characterization, and off-nominal testing.
• Familiarity with embedded interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, SpaceWire, Aurora, AXI, or AMBA.
• Familiarity with FPGA development or debug using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
• Experience with qualification, acceptance, environmental, or EMI/EMC test campaigns.
• Experience with Design for Testability
• Experience with technical leadership and mentoring.

Base Pay Range for:

WA applicants is $197,529.00 - $276,539.55
