Driver's License Examiner I - OKC Classen Agency The Service Oklahoma (SOK) mission is to ease the stress in navigating government services by providing a best‑in‑class customer experience. We are Oklahomans helping Oklahomans by providing driver license and motor vehicle services on behalf of the state. Overview The Driver’s License Examiners (DLE’s) are one of the first lines of homeland security for the State of Oklahoma. This position performs highly responsible work in conducting driver’s license interviews, visual, written, and road examinations, and inspections to determine eligibility and qualification for driver’s licenses or state identification cards in compliance with State and Federal regulations and guidelines that protect the citizens of the United States and the State of Oklahoma. Responsibilities Interview applicants to determine the type of license or identification required; review, inspect, and verify legality of qualifying documents and identity. Advise applicants on reasons an application cannot be accepted and procedures to resolve disqualifying issues, including providing expert testimony on medical disqualifications. Evaluate medical, physical, or mental information provided by applicants based on state and federal standards, determine requirements for waivers or restrictions to driving privileges, and advise on waiver application procedures. Conduct in‑depth vehicle safety inspections of vehicles, buses, and commercial vehicles, and test operators’ knowledge and ability to safely operate required systems and equipment. Administer vision, written, pre‑trip, and skills tests; evaluate applicant performance to determine knowledge and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in compliance with state and federal laws. Establish driver’s license records while maintaining confidentiality and security of information in compliance with state and federal laws. Assist the Legal Division in gathering evidence to prepare for potential legal action on fraudulent applications. Respond to inquiries from motor license agents in verifying applicant identity, provide information concerning specific laws and procedures to law enforcement agencies and the public, and make recommendations on changes to driver’s license laws, policies and procedures. Conduct other interviews and hearings, both formal and informal, concerning driver’s license suspensions, revocations and restrictions, modifications, temporary licenses, financial responsibility laws, accident reports, and other relevant matters; render final decisions and issue appropriate orders. Proctor Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) exams for Level II & Lead staff (must be CCKE certified). Provide training to lower‑level staff at their assigned location or nearby locations (Level II & Lead). Review timesheets weekly for the assigned team, identify issues, notify employees to make corrections, and approve timesheets when accurately submitted within the deadline (Lead). Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of state and federal laws regarding driving privileges, physical requirements, exemptions, and the issuance of driver’s licenses; various types of commercial vehicles and licensing requirements. Ability to conduct interviews, inspect and evaluate motor vehicles and related equipment, and operate all types of motor vehicles. Ability to administer written and performance tests and verify authenticity of identification documents. Effective communication, computer operation, and touch‑typing skills. For Level II & Lead: ability to oversee work and provide guidance to lower‑level staff and perform highly complex and independent work for all classes of motor vehicles and licensing. For Lead: knowledge and understanding of time and leave management. Level Descriptors Level I – An entry‑level position responsible for performing work associated with the testing and issuance of driver’s licenses and state identification cards. Level II – Holds a Certified Commercial Knowledge Examiner (CCKE) certification and performs work at a full‑performance level with greater complexity. Lead – Holds a CCKE certification and acts as the subject‑matter expert with the greatest complexity of duties. Education & Experience Level I: Bachelor’s Degree in any field OR four (4) years of technical clerical office work OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Level II: Minimum qualifications for Level II plus CCKE certification. Lead: Minimum qualifications for Level I plus a minimum of six months of experience in the Product & Experience division. Preference may be given to candidates with previous customer service experience, familiarity with DMV processes and procedures, and proficiency in typing at least 50 wpm with minimal errors. Special Requirements Schedule may vary and require flexibility, including early or late shifts, weekends, and occasional overtime. Work location may vary; no telework; occasional travel may be required; candidates must be willing to perform travel. Reliable transportation may be required for local travel; possession and maintenance of a valid Oklahoma Driver License is required. Position is in a storefront setting with a large percentage of the day on the store floor; noise level is mild but depends on customer traffic. Candidate must be able to stand up to eight hours a day and lift 10‑50 pounds on a regular basis, with assistance as needed. Benefits Annual rate: $43,680. Benefits allowance to offset costs of medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance plans. Matching up to 7% of an employee’s Defined Contribution retirement plan. 11 paid holidays. 15 days of paid annual leave (increases with every five years of service). 15 days of paid sick leave. Longevity payments based on years of service with the State of Oklahoma.
