Digital Marketing Intern

The Innovation Hub Powered by George Mason University is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and self-directed Marketing Intern to support marketing, communications, and outreach efforts. This position offers hands-on experience in digital marketing, social media management, website development, multimedia production, and public affairs coordination. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual who can manage multiple projects independently, take initiative, and contribute innovative ideas while working collaboratively with university, community, government, and industry partners. Digital Marketing & Communications Develop and execute marketing content to promote Innovation Hub programs, events, partnerships, and initiatives. Assist in the creation of marketing campaigns across digital and traditional platforms. Draft and edit promotional materials, newsletters, and communication content. Website Development & Management Support website development, maintenance, and ongoing content updates. Ensure website information remains accurate, engaging, and aligned with organizational goals. Identify opportunities to improve website functionality and user experience. Social Media Management Manage and maintain the Innovation Hub's LinkedIn presence. Create, schedule, and publish content that highlights programs, partnerships, events, and success stories. Monitor engagement analytics and recommend strategies to expand audience reach and impact. Public Affairs Coordination Work closely with Public Affairs staff to ensure communications and marketing materials receive appropriate review and approval. Maintain compliance with branding, communication, and public affairs guidelines. Multimedia Content Creation Capture and edit photography and video content for marketing campaigns, events, and social media. Develop short-form and long-form video content that showcases Innovation Hub activities and stakeholder engagement. Assist with graphic design and digital storytelling projects. Event Marketing Support Support promotional efforts for Innovation Hub events and initiatives. Document events through photography and videography. Assist with post-event communications and content distribution. Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Digital Media, Journalism, Business, or a related field. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Experience managing social media platforms, particularly LinkedIn. Familiarity with website management and content management systems. Experience with photography, videography, and video editing software. Proficiency with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other content creation tools preferred. Strong organizational and project management skills. Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities. Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and attention to detail. Working knowledge of military culture, military organizations, or military-affiliated communities. Experience coordinating with public affairs, communications, or outreach organizations. Interest in innovation, entrepreneurship, workforce development, higher education, or community engagement. Hands-on experience in digital marketing and communications. Professional experience managing organizational social media and web content. Opportunities to build a portfolio of marketing, photography, and video production work.
