About the company:

Sunny Days Entertainment, Inc. is a toy manufacturer and distributor located in Gray Court, SC. We were founded in 2012 and continued to grow the business in the following years, with extreme growth in the last 3 years. Historically, we have outsourced our HR needs, but we are ready to start our own in-house department for this dynamic, fast paced company. 

Currently, we have 133 FT employees, a distribution center and storage facility in Gray Court and Fountain Inn, SC, respectively. Some of our customers include Wal-Mart, Amazon, Target, Meijer, and several grocery chains. Our distribution center operates M-F 8-5 except during the holiday season when sales have historically demanded additional shifts to accommodate the customers’ needs. We provide products for creative, traditional play with trendy takes on classic toys.

About the Role:

The Human Resources Director in the transportation and warehousing industry plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the organization's human capital strategy to support business objectives. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing all HR functions, including benefits administration, employee relations, and compliance with employment laws, ensuring a fair and productive workplace. The role demands strategic planning and implementation of total rewards programs and succession planning to attract, retain, and develop top talent. The director will foster employee engagement initiatives that promote a positive organizational culture and enhance workforce performance. Ultimately, this position ensures that HR practices align with both regulatory requirements and the company’s mission, driving sustainable growth and operational excellence.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• At least 7 years of progressive HR experience, including leadership roles within the transportation or warehousing industry.
• Demonstrated expertise in benefits administration, employee relations, and employment law compliance.
• Proven experience managing affirmative action programs and performance appraisal systems.
• Strong knowledge of total rewards strategies and succession planning.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in human resources management or an MBA with HR focus.
• Professional HR certification such as SHRM-SCP or SPHR.
• Experience with negotiating with benefit plans, retirement plans, and HR information systems.
• Experience setting up an HR organization from the bottom up.
• Experience navigating different personalities and management styles. Providing feedback in an amicable style to help facilitate change.
• Experience with HR information systems (HRIS) and data analytics.
• Background in change management and organizational development.

Responsibilities:.

• Develop and implement comprehensive HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy of the transportation and warehousing sector.
• Manage benefits administration programs to ensure competitive and compliant employee offerings.
• Oversee employee relations to resolve workplace issues, promote positive communication, and maintain a respectful work environment.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and affirmative action regulations, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legal requirements.
• Lead performance appraisal processes and succession planning to support employee development and organizational continuity.
• Design and execute employee engagement programs to improve morale, productivity, and retention.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate total rewards strategies that balance cost management with employee satisfaction.
• Supervise and mentor HR generalists and other HR staff to ensure effective delivery of HR services across the organization.

The Human Resources Director will utilize benefits administration skills daily to design and manage competitive employee benefit programs that comply with legal standards and meet workforce needs. Employee relations expertise is critical for addressing workplace conflicts, fostering communication, and maintaining a positive organizational culture. Knowledge of employment law ensures that all HR policies and practices adhere to federal and state regulations, minimizing legal risks. Skills in affirmative action and performance appraisal support the development of equitable hiring practices and effective employee evaluations, which are essential for talent management. Additionally, the ability to implement total rewards and succession planning strategies enables the director to align HR initiatives with business goals, ensuring long-term organizational success.
