Retail Mortgage Loan Officer (Arizona)

Job Summary The Retail Mortgage Loan Officer (RMLO) position proactively solicits new residential mortgage loans and sells CU mortgage products to meet established loan quality and production goals. At least 50% of the RMLO’s time will be spent marketing outside the credit union. RMLOs serve as role models and mentor and teach MLO I & MLO II. Location Phoenix, AZ 85004 – 302 E McDowell Rd, Branch Schedule Full Time Job Description Identify, develop, and maintain a network of outside business relationships to generate recurring referral sources (real estate agents, builders, personal contacts). Develop mortgage lending opportunities by promoting home ownership within the community. Respond to member inquiries and referrals generated by personal and credit union channels. Conduct interviews with prospective borrowers to analyze financial and credit data, determine financing objectives, and advise on product/pricing policies. Meet with members and prospective borrowers throughout the various stages of the lending process. Utilize CU training materials, reference tools, and other resources to provide accurate, up‑to‑date loan program and policy information to internal and external members. Provide a complete and accurate loan application as part of a complete loan package. Ensure an exceptional member experience by overseeing the loan process from origination to close and providing ongoing communication to borrowers and business partners. Achieve or exceed production goals set by the Mortgage Department. Determine borrower financing objectives and goals using the AAA framework: Assess correct loan options; advise on best mortgage programs; assist along the path to homeownership. Apprise members of pricing and CU lock‑in policies and procedures; price and lock rates as required. Identify opportunities to sell additional products in accordance with the LO Handbook referral requirements. Complete mortgage application processes via Blend and Encompass, entering addresses, phone numbers, account numbers, and other necessary information. Run credit reports and AUS, collect loan fees, and order appraisals and title reports. Collect supporting documentation and provide a complete loan package to Mortgage Loan Coordinators via Encompass. Work with Mortgage Loan Coordinators to ensure submissions to Underwriting within 48 hours of a completed package. Ensure all underwriting conditions are met and maintain ongoing communication with borrowers regarding loan status. Track REPC and lock deadlines to avoid extensions or loss of property/earnest money; provide extensions prior to settlement if needed. Use Encompass to add detailed loan notes, review comments and conditions, and respond to changes with necessary urgency. Counsel members denied loans regarding credit and path to credit improvement. Attend and complete all required Credit Union trainings and university classes before due dates. Maintain current knowledge of all lending programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Conduct and attend monthly regional meetings with MLO I & II within the region and participate in monthly Mortgage Department meetings and weekly Branch M&Ms. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Experience: Minimum 2 years of professional experience in a progressive financial lending setting; mortgage experience preferred. Education: Minimum high school diploma or educational equivalent; a two‑year college degree or completion of a specialized business or trade program preferred. Licenses and Registrations: Ability to obtain an NMLS number; the S.A.F.E. Act requires every mortgage loan originator to be NMLS‑registered. Management: No managerial responsibility. Computer/Office Skills: Intermediate to Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel); experience with analytical and reporting software preferred; experience with Encompass, Blend, Optimal Blue preferred; typing speed of 35–40 words per minute. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as tax returns, income statements, contracts, loan program guidelines, AUS findings, title reports; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups. Physical Abilities/Working Conditions: Ability to sit, talk, hear consistently; stand, walk, and use hands occasionally; lift up to 10 pounds occasionally; typical office noise environment.
