Director of Community Relations

The Director of Community Relations leads Sholom's outreach, community engagement, and relationship-building efforts to strengthen the organization's reputation, brand visibility, and partnerships across the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. This role develops and implements strategies that connect Sholom with key stakeholders, including prospective residents and families, referral partners, donors, and community organizations. Working in close collaboration with the Sholom Community Alliance Vice President of Sales and Marketing and the Sholom Foundation Director of Development, the Director of Community Relations ensures consistent messaging, brand alignment, and mission-driven marketing that reflects Sholom's Jewish values of care, compassion, and community.

Primary Responsibilities

• Strategic Marketing and Brand Alignment
  • In collaboration with the SCA Vice President of Sales and Marketing and Foundation Director of Development, develop a unified, mission-driven marketing plan that upholds and advances the Sholom brand.
  • Create and implement a strategic marketing and communications plan that supports organizational growth, occupancy, donor relations, and community engagement.
  • Produce engaging video and testimonial content that highlights the Sholom lifestyle, resident experiences, employee engagement, and brand storytelling.
  • Serve as a Sholom brand ambassador, promoting consistency in tone, message, and value proposition across all materials and communications.
  • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and quality in newsletters, social media content, and other marketing communications.
  • Collaborate with leadership on annual marketing budgets and guide website updates and marketing collateral needs.
  • Conduct tours of Sholom campuses for potential customers, donors, partners, and referral sources to build engagement and awareness.
• Business Development and Community Relations
  • Plan, organize, and execute community education and referral events such as CEUs, seminars, and hosted luncheons for referral partners, donors, and professionals.
  • Partner with community providers and organizations to create and share educational opportunities that promote aging services awareness.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and optimize an inquiry management system that enhances tracking, workflow efficiency, and conversion outcomes across all service lines.
  • Develop materials and resources that support families and professionals seeking information about Sholom programs and services.
  • Build awareness about Sholom organization with referral sources, potential partners, donors, and other groups.
  • Develops a connected network for Jewish seniors in Minnesota and outstate to grow awareness about Sholom services and programs, develop relationships, and learn from them.
  • Collaborate with the Community Outreach Coordinator and Foundation teams to align outreach, storytelling, and donor engagement with census-building objectives.
• Sholom Community Resources and Education
  1. Prepares or obtains materials from community resources and program files.
  2. Access and work with community providers for educational opportunities.
  3. Organize referral events, i.e. CEUs, seminars, hosting referral, donor, and community events.
• Volunteer and Outreach Program Leadership
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinators (East and West Campuses) and the Community Outreach Coordinator (West) to strengthen volunteer programs.
  • Manage and collaborate with the Community Outreach Coordinator to strengthen outreach initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of community service and meaningful volunteer involvement that enriches resident life and strengthens connections with local organizations.
  • Guide the planning and execution of community events that celebrate Sholom's values, culture, and heritage.
• Communications and Content Management
  • Create and oversee organizational newsletters, announcements, and social media updates for customers, families, and stakeholders.
  • Write and edit content for the quarterly Sholom Newsletter, leadership messages, and community communications.
  • Manage and maintain Sholom's content calendar for social media platforms, working in partnership with internal staff and contracted digital media support.
  • Ensure that all communications align with Sholom's brand voice, tone, and messaging standards.
• Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate in cross-campus and cross-departmental meetings, events, and initiatives that promote collaboration and community engagement.
  • Represent Sholom with professionalism and integrity in all external interactions, upholding the organization's mission and PROUD service standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the SCA Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

Job Specifications

Education, Experience and Credentials

• Vocational/technical training or associate degree required.
• Bachelor's degree: Marketing/communications, related field or equivalent experience preferred.
• Other license/certification/registration: Aging services sales and marketing certificate program completion preferred.
• One to three years of marketing/communications experience in the field of aging services required; three to five years preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Social media, digital platforms, Canva, and marketing programs experience required.
• Flexible and productive in an environment with regular interruptions.
• Display high levels of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries and needs of individuals both internal and external to the organization.
• Understand and maintain confidential nature of organization and client information in accordance to HIPAA regulations and corporate compliance standards, including appropriate access of data housed within the Information Technology infrastructure.
• Possess effective problem-solving skills.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, and other applications. Must be skilled in database management and record keeping.
• Able to display high levels of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries and needs of individuals both internal and external to the organization in accordance with our PROUD standards.
• Able to understand and follow facility and department safety and emergency procedures.

Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform This Job

• Perform light work, with occasional or negligible lifting of objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
• Communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing to all levels of people inside and outside the organization, including possessing good English-speaking skills, fluency and understandability.
• Able to effectively use office equipment to review and create information.
• Work at a desk for extended periods of time and perform long hours of work at a computer.
• Frequently stand and walk to move around office/building repeatedly throughout the day.
• Able to work a flexible work schedule, including overtime, nights and weekends as required including attending events/meetings as needed.
• Able to obtain reliable transportation.

• Use telephone, computer and standard office equipment.

Work Environment

The work environment is indoors. The incumbent must be flexible about switching positions quickly in order to respond to the needs of residents, in responding to emergencies.
