This position plays an important role in ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of students throughout the school year. The ideal candidate will have mechanical knowledge, strong troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and dependable school bus fleet. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on school buses and district vehicles.
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, brakes, air brake systems, steering, suspension, electrical systems, and other mechanical components.
- Troubleshoot engine warning lights, electronic controls, and emissions systems.
- Complete required vehicle safety inspections and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Identify mechanical and safety concerns and complete repairs in a timely manner.
- Maintain shop equipment, tools, and a clean, safe work environment.
- Assist with emergency repairs and vehicle breakdowns as needed.
- Coordinate maintenance needs and vehicle readiness with the Transportation Director.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in diesel mechanics, automotive repair, or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance preferred.
- Knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, air brakes, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize repairs.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Applicable Minnesota school bus inspection credentials, or willingness to obtain them, as required for assigned duties.
- CDL and school bus endorsements preferred if driving duties are assigned.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, with reasonable accommodations as applicable.
