Job Description:\n\nSummary\n\nThe Master Heavy Equipment Mechanic (HEM) Technician is responsible for the inspection, servicing, repair, and preventive maintenance of a wide range of company-owned equipment. This role ensures all equipment is safe, reliable, and road-ready by adhering to both company protocols and industry standards. This position involves inspecting, diagnosing and repairing hydraulic and electrical systems, hydraulic steering systems, multi-axle alignments, chassis electrical, and air brake systems. The position also requires advanced welding and fabrication work as needed.\n\n \n\nEducation and Experience\n\n\tA degree/diploma from an accredited Heavy Equipment and/or Diesel Technician program. Or 10+ years of equivalent experience working with heavy/medium duty diesel heavy equipment validated through the Associated Equipment Distributors (AED) Foundation Technical Pre-Assessment with a passing overall score of =>75%. And must obtain AED Industry Certified Technician Assessment with a passing overall score of =>80% within 1 year of hire date. \n\tASE Certifications – Master Medium / Heavy Duty Technician Required T-2 to T8 required within 1 year hire.\n\t10+ years advanced skills in cutting and welding is required.\n\tDemonstrates expert level knowledge of various types of fluid power systems, including open and closed-loop configurations. Skilled in replacing or rebuilding hydraulic pumps, valves, hoses and cylinders with the ability to measure cylinder tolerances and check for scoring, pitting or warping. Proficient in pressure testing rebuilt cylinders to ensure proper operation and a leak-free performance.\n\tAble to interpret hydraulic schematics and troubleshoot complex fluid power systems performing pressure testing and flow diagnostics using specialized tools and gauges. Skilled in identifying issues such as internal leakage, cavitation, contamination and improper flow rates.\n\tDemonstrate expert-level knowledge in electric-over-hydraulic systems, with the ability to diagnose and repair electric-over-hydraulic steering systems, including sensors, actuators, and control modules. Skilled in testing and replacing sensors, calibrating and verifying actuator responses, and repairing or replacing control modules and wiring harnesses.\n\tProficient in troubleshooting electrical faults related to steering circuits and sensors and with the ability to calibrate and test electronic steering components. Capable of performing all necessary repairs to ensure the system is fully operational. Skilled in identifying issues with grounding, voltage drops and signal loss and with repairing damaged wiring, connectors and sensor inputs.\n\tSkilled in performing high-precision fabrication of structural components through cutting, grinding, welding, and fitting techniques using plasma cutters, brake presses, shears, and other fabrication equipment safely and efficiently.\n\tProficient in executing MIG and Stick welding on mild steel and aluminum components ensuring welds meet structural integrity and appearance standards through visual inspection and non-destructive testing.\n\tHighly experienced in repairing cracked or damaged welds and reinforcing high-stress areas on trailers, frames, and heavy equipment.\n\tDemonstrated experience in performing advanced diagnostics on lighting systems and ABS systems including wheel speed sensors, modulators, ECU communication and electrical harnesses for all general lighting circuits.\n\tExpertise in using OEM diagnostic tools and software to identify fault codes and perform system resets or calibrations.\n\tValid driver's license required, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.\n\tAbility to operate all related shop equipment. \n\tDOT and forklift certification is preferred; must be able to obtain certification within one year.\n\tExcellent communications skills (written, verbal, listening).\n\tExceptional decision-making, problem-solving, attention to detail and customer service skills (internal/external).\n\tProficient in using computers including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).\n\tWorking knowledge of proper procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.\n\tAbility to perform advanced diagnostics to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy equipment, using specialized tools and diagnostic software to ensure accurate and efficient repairs.\n\tAble to effectively communicate with driver to gather detailed information and understand the root cause of equipment issues, ensuring accurate diagnostics and timely repairs.\n\tDemonstrated ability to consistently and successfully submit warranty claims and model proper completion of CCC procedures. Follows through with successful repairs, part documentation, and data collection.\n\n \n\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\n\n\tAdvanced diagnostics on Hydraulic and electrical steer systems on the equipment.\n\tSuperior ability to weld steel/aluminum to repair parts or fabricate replacement parts.\n\tModify, build and fabricate various hydraulic and electrical steer systems to enhance the equipment.\n\tAbility to duplicate drivability concerns.\n\tUtilize appropriate resources, such as the parts manual and computer, service bulletins and other resources to research problems. Determine the most effective and efficient method for repair.\n\tIdentify opportunities for continuous improvement and take appropriate actions, recommend process changes, and initiate improvements.\n\tRemain technically proficient in all areas of equipment maintenance.\n\tEnsure safety procedures are implemented, followed, and PPE is always used.\n\tBe a positive role model for all team members providing support and enthusiasm – creating a professional, positive work environment.\n\tMove equipment in and out of the shop for maintenance safely.\n\tParticipate in online OEM training.\n\tIn support of ATS's culture, all employees are expected to consistently, effectively and reliably perform in accordance with the Company's values as set forth in our core competencies and behaviors (All Employee Competencies).\n\tFollow all ATS and department policies and procedures.\n\tMeet HEM Master standard time rating (95%+)\n\tMeet HEM Master frequency (\n\tMeet HEM Master Quality Assurance Performance (92+%)\n\tPerforms shop clean-up and housekeeping responsibilities.\n\tMust furnish basic tools and ATS will provide specialty tools to perform functions of the position.\n\tMeet all ATS and department objectives and deadlines.\n\tWorks within budget that is set for the department.\n\tRequired to work occasional overtime, Saturdays and other shift vacancies as needed.\n\tWilling and able to travel infrequently, including overnight travel.\n\tComplete DOT inspections on outgoing equipment to verify that all necessary repairs have been made.\n\tPerform inspections on incoming (Safety Lane) and outgoing company owned equipment using ATS, DOT, and OSHA guidelines to ensure the equipment is operating safely and efficiently.\n\tPerforms other duties and responsibilities as assigned.\n\tUnderstands and consistently performs in accordance with ATS Mission, Vision, and Values.\n\tSupport ATS' culture by aligning actions, behaviors, performance, and decisions in accordance with the Company's values as set forth in our All-Employee Competencies.\n\tComplete work responsibilities outside of normal business hours as needed and infrequent travel may be required. \n\tPerform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.\n\n \n\nSpecific Job-Related Tasks and Capabilities:\n\n \n\n\tPossess superior knowledge of Hydraulic systems and wireless steer systems. Can diagnose and repair these systems both on Tridec and Lodar on their own using resources posted on the intranet or schematics.\n\tHighly proficient in the use of torch cutting, welding, and plasma cutting equipment, with the ability to weld both mild steel and aluminum to a high standard. Capable of independently welding a wide range of equipment components, including structural areas, while consistently meeting quality repair standards.\n\tAbility to custom build hydraulic, steering and electrical systems on all equipment as needed.\n\tHighly proficient in rebuilding full Tridec steer systems without help. Replace all bushings and bearings and can train others to do this following SOP.\n\tTear down and rebuild Booster Pivot bearings, Hatbox bearings, fifth goosenecks and large Heavy Yellow repairs with no guidance.\n\tSuperior skills and knowledge to work on all equipment such as: 3 axle RGN's, 4 Axle RGN's, Blades, Multi Axle, Schnable's and Perimeters.\n\tSuperior skills and knowledge to perform all small gas engine repairs and be able to diagnoses all hydraulic systems on multi axle equipment and blade equipment without guidance.\n\tInstall and take out deck sections and beam sections upon request. Can convert multi axle equipment into steerable equipment upon request.\n\tPerform accident damage repairs including full rear end replacements, axle and boogie box swaps, side-rail and cross member repairs and up to Multi Axle and Schnabel equipment without guidance.\n\tPossess superior knowledge of the equipment air systems. Be able to diagnose and make repairs and re-plumb air systems without help. Ability to train others.\n\tAssist the Trailer Trainer in the creation of SOP repair guidelines based upon knowledge gained through hands on experience. Assist in document drafts and train others to follow and perform the correct repairs.\n\tDemonstrate superior IDRIVE values. Adheres to company expectations and policies.\n\tAbility and knowledge of the ABS systems and how to TS and repair various issues within them. Understands all aspects of the ABS software systems for diagnostics without help.\n\tDemonstrated ability and understanding of lighting systems. Diagnose all lighting wiring issues without help and make the repairs to ATS and DOT standards\n\tBe able to perform PM/DOT inspections on your own and be fully capable of finding all needed repairs on the equipment to bring it to ATS and DOT standards.\n\tExceptional understanding of the VM Task system and possess a superior understanding of building a repair plan for each piece of equipment by using appropriate Standard Jobs for the repairs needed.\n\tHands-on mentor and train for up to 90 days with new hires, either on ATS way and computer system or hands on training and coaching. Will be able to work and train on all pieces of equipment ATS owns.\n\tDemonstrates all Warranty and Safety SOP's will be followed as well as all other documented SOPs posted on the ATS intranet.\n\tBrake inspection certified. Demonstrate a superior understanding on how to replace brakes, wheel seals, S-Cams, Chambers. Performed brake, wheel seal, S-Cam replacement on various equipment and can perform this procedure without help from anyone and done to ATS and DOT specs.\n\tTire Certified with a solid understanding of the tire program, consistently demonstrated through day-to-day performance on the shop floor.\n\n \n\n \n\nPhysical Demands\n\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. Constantly inspecting and assessing equipment to determine whether to replace or repair and the best approach to replace/repair.\n\tIntermittently communicates with others regarding work questions, processes, procedures and timelines.\n\n \n\nMust be able to move/position parts, tools equipment:\n\n\tFrom 1 to 10 lbs. frequently\n\tFrom 11 to 25 lbs. frequently\n\tFrom 25 to 50 lbs. occasionally\n\tOver 50 lbs. occasionally\n\n \n\nExposure to:\n\n\tLoud noises constantly requiring hearing protection.\n\tTemperature extremes intermittently due to outside weather conditions.\n\tDirt, dust, grease, chemicals and odors constantly.\n\n\tSituations requiring eye protection and steel toed boots and when welding, an approved shield.\n\nHourly Positions \n\nCompensation & Benefits:\n\n· The anticipated hourly pay range for this position is between $39.50 - $52.00. Hourly pay rate offered is determined by relevant experience, education, certifications, and geographic location as compared to others doing substantially similar work.
