Together, the FAS seeks to foster an environment of ambition, curiosity and shared commitment to knowledge and truth that elicits excellence from all members of our community and prepares the next generation of leaders through a transformative educational experience.Job DescriptionJob Summary: Manage accounting activities, and provides specialized analysis and financial reporting.Job-Specific Responsibilities: Responsible for effective staff management, including hiring and orientation, training and development, workflow and performance management, and the promotion of an inclusive and innovative work environmentEstablish and monitor effective accounting processes and systems to maintain accounting controlsEnsure department's accurate and timely financial reportingIdentify operational challenges; research and implement solutionsMay prepare tax documentation and financial statementsEnsure the school/unit financial statements are prepared in accordance with accounting principlesCollaborate on the development of new accounting procedures within school/unit that support University wide policies and initiativesPrepare department for annual and interim audits from internal and external firms/agenciesEnsure financial compliance with University policies and procedures, audit and accounting disclosure requirements, and applicable legal rules and regulationWorking Conditions: Work is performed in an office setting; this is a hybrid position requiring 1 day on campus (subject to change)Physical Requirements: Sitting and using near vision for reading and computer work for extended periods of time.QualificationsBasic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience requiredMinimum of 7 years’ relevant work experienceSupervisory experienceAdditional Qualifications and Skills: MBA or Master’s degree in relevant field preferredKnowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced excel skillsAdvanced knowledge of accounting principles and tax regulationsDemonstrated experience with Financial systems and data query toolsCertificates and Licenses: CPA DesirableAdditional InformationStandard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per weekVisa Sponsorship Information: Harvard University is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this positionPre-Employment Screening: Identity, Education, Criminal, CreditOther Information: All formal offers will be made by FAS Human Resources.Work Format DetailsThis position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location.
