Insurance and Billing Supervisor - 139842

Description The Insurance & Billing Supervisor provides day‑to‑day supervision of Patient Billing and Collection Representatives, ensuring accurate, timely claim processing and compliance with HIPAA, FERPA and UC San Diego Health standards. The supervisor directs workflow, sets priorities, analyzes billing and collection processes, recommends and implements new procedures, and supports the Executive Director’s Office. Minimum Qualifications Nine (9) years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree plus five (5) years of related experience/training. Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing/collections, with at least 1 year of supervisory responsibility preferred. Demonstrated supervisory, organizational, and customer service skills to effectively supervise and prioritize the activities of subordinate staff, including staff development, performance evaluation, and delegation. Thorough knowledge of medical and insurance terminology, billing and collections internal procedures, external regulations; strong knowledge of health‑care billing, collections, insurance contracts, and revenue‑cycle management; ability to interpret payer guidelines and resolve complex billing issues. Strong skills in quality customer service and interpersonal skills to manage conflict and collaborate with patients, physician offices, third‑party payors, attorneys, outside agencies, and clinical and administrative personnel across departments. Skilled in written and verbal communications, able to present complex clinical finance and business information clearly and concisely, and to prepare and present reports and analyses. Strong critical‑thinking skills to analyze and evaluate complex problems, determine appropriate intervention, and develop solutions. Solid leadership skills to coach and improve staff performance; ability to review complex subordinate work and oversee coordination of tasks and projects over extended periods. Solid knowledge of human resources management policies, able to evaluate and document human resources matters and performance. Computer proficiency in all relevant hardware, software, and specialty information systems; ability to synthesize data and use computerized systems to produce meaningful reports on department operations. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a higher education setting working with students preferred. Familiarity with EPIC electronic medical record, student information systems, and the Bursar’s financial systems. Pre‑employment physical and TB test required. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $79,200 - $143,400 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%).
