Job Summary As a guardian of the self‑checkout area, your primary role is to protect the company against inventory losses or fraud by overseeing the accurate scanning and recording of products at self‑checkout stations. You will actively monitor transactions, address potential issues, and collaborate with leadership to prevent loss. Exceptional customer service is paramount, as you assist and engage with customers, providing guidance on the self‑checkout process and promptly addressing inquiries, contributing to a positive shopping experience that increases customer confidence and loyalty. Responsibilities Protect against inventory losses or fraud at self‑checkout lanes by continuously providing exceptional customer service and intervening with appropriate responses when necessary. (45%) Observe self‑checkout transactions diligently to identify any irregularities or suspicious activities. Ensure customers are scanning and bagging items correctly, intervening when necessary to verify the accuracy of scanned items. Respond promptly to Point‑of‑Sale alerts and notifications, investigating any potential issues with transactions or discrepancies in scanned items. Report any incidents of theft, suspicious behavior, or equipment malfunctions to store leadership. Provide outstanding service in the self‑checkout lanes, proactively assisting customers and educating them on the self‑checkout process to minimize errors and promote a smooth experience. (45%) Engage customers in a friendly manner to create a positive shopping environment while subtly discouraging fraudulent activities. Offer continuous attention to customer needs; greet, assist, and thank customers with a friendly smile in a prompt and courteous manner. Monitor regular lanes for excessive traffic and invite waiting customers to use while maintaining a positive attitude. Aid actively in scanning products for those who may require assistance. Keep work area clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards. (10%) Stock front‑end products, ensuring the self‑checkout area is fully stocked with required supplies and/or tools. Clean and sanitize equipment during downtime or immediately when spillage occurs. Return carts to the shopping cart corral. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Education: None Preferred Education: High School / GED Relevant Experience: 0 – 3 years of supervisory experience (or none). Language(s): English required; English & Spanish preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Must be at least 18 years of age to perform job functions. Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently. Ability to understand and follow English instructions. Compliance with all company policies and procedures. High standard of integrity and reliability. Basic computer skills required to participate in online training. Authorization to work in the United States or the ability to obtain the same. Successful completion of pre‑employment drug testing and background check. Environmental Factors Retail – General Light. Physical demands include standing or walking on various types of flooring, using manual dexterity, speaking, seeing, hearing, smelling, and performing repetitive movements with both hands and/or both feet. Employees may need to reach waist level or above, carry, push, or lift up to specified weights. Occasionally required to sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb up to 4 ft. Working conditions include indoor, outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, and wet/humid environments. Safety risks involve twisting back or neck, walking on slippery or cluttered floors, working with hazardous equipment, exposure to sharp objects, loud noise, skin irritants, dust, fumes, and sprays, hazardous cleaning solutions, and other toxins. Required equipment includes cleaning supplies and equipment, general office equipment, register, pricing gun, scales, scanner, material handling equipment such as racks, carts, pallet jacks, and shopping carts. Preferred equipment includes baler/compactor, box cutter. Personal protective equipment includes goggles, gloves, and back brace. Pulling requirement: 250 lbs. Lifting requirement: 20 lbs.
