Certified Surgical Technologist - Labor & Delivery

The Certified Surgical Technologist functions in the role of scrub person, working under the supervision of the surgeon and the registered nurse to ensure a safe operating room environment. The technologist guarantees that equipment functions properly and that operative procedures are conducted in conditions that maximize patient safety. This role requires expertise in surgical techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the utilization of tools and technologies for safe patient care during both therapeutic and diagnostic invasive procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent military surgical technologist program
• American Heart Association BLS Certification
• Certified Surgical Technologist
• Preferred: 1 year of surgical technologist experience in an acute care operating room

Essential Job Functions

• Ensure completion of case carts according to preference cards and interpret these cards for instrument and supply procurement.
• Communicate effectively with operating room staff and sterile processing team members to coordinate instrumentation for both scheduled and unscheduled cases.
• Review the daily schedule with the charge nurse and sterile processing coordinator to identify potential turnover delays and scheduling issues.
• Assume responsibility for communication tasks, including managing the core phone and delegating duties appropriately while coordinating breaks and lunches.
• Serve as a resource for the departments of Sterile Processing and Surgical Services regarding necessary supplies and instruments for surgical procedures.
• Communicate with materials management regarding supply utilization and deployment.

Schedule Requirements

This role requires regular attendance, with the potential for scheduled work beyond the standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts. Holiday coverage is required.
