Full-time and Part-Time Emergency Communications Dispatch Officer (Multi-Hire)

Emergency Communications Dispatch Officer Full‑time and part‑time positions available to serve the County as the first point of contact during emergency and non‑emergency calls. The dispatcher answers calls, dispatches law‑enforcement, fire, and medical personnel, and provides communication support services across agencies. This is an in‑person position with no remote option. Position Summary Full‑time salary: $45,000 to $50,000 (Based on Experience). Part‑time salary: $18.00 to $25.00 per hour (Based on Experience). Open until filled. Minimum Requirements Must be 18 years of age. High School Diploma or equivalent required. Valid driver’s license. Demonstrated ability to complete Basic Dispatch training within one year. Demonstrated ability to complete various other training courses within the first three months. Prior DCJS‑certified communications/dispatcher experience (preferred but not required). Training will be provided. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have a high‑stress tolerance and the ability to maintain composure in critical life‑or‑death situations. Strong listening skills to discern changes in tone and to pick up background noises, the ability to multitask, type rapidly while speaking, monitor screens, and stay attentive to multiple communications simultaneously are essential. Excellent written, oral communication skills and an average typing speed of at least 60 words per minute are required. Physical Requirements Sitting for long periods of time (6‑12 hours). Typing and viewing computer screens for long periods of time (6‑8 hours). Ability to lift 5 to 10 pounds often. Ability to lift 10 to 50 pounds rarely. Duties and Responsibilities Operate a multi‑line telephone console system and TDD system for the deaf and hearing impaired. Determine and assign the level of priority of the call and enter the data into a computer‑aided dispatch system for radio dispatch purposes. Perform emergency medical dispatch and crisis intervention services. Ask vital questions and provide pre‑arrival instructions for emergency medical calls. Monitor and operate a radio console and computer equipment. Receive and respond to a variety of emergency and non‑emergency services and complaints. Ask questions to interpret, analyze, and anticipate the caller’s situation to resolve problems, provide information, dispatch emergency services, or refer a caller to other agencies. Dispatch and coordinate the response of public safety agencies. Identify appropriate number and type of equipment or apparatus to dispatch. Enter and modify information into local, state, and national computer databases. Monitor and respond to a variety of technical systems and alarms.
