Custodian Department: Facilities and Operations Bargaining Unit: Union of Grand Rapids Education Support Professional (UGRESP) Wage: According to the collective bargaining agreement Direct Supervisor: Quadrant Supervisor Job Summary This position is a member of the Operations Department and reports directly to the Operations leader in the building the person is assigned to. It also reports indirectly to the Building Administration for day‑to‑day building instructions. The position supports the educational process by maintaining the district’s buildings in operational excellence through efficient housekeeping, grounds keeping and basic repair services. It may be assigned and work in multiple buildings as required. Essential Job Functions Contribute to the team effort as outlined through the district strategic plan, mission statements, and departmental goals. Cooperate and communicate with the Operations Team, Building Administrator and their staff to properly maintain the physical plant and site in a sanitary, safe, and functional condition. Perform daily custodial and daily grounds tasks according to an approved work schedule and perform periodic custodial and seasonal ground tasks as required. Operate and maintain various types of building mechanical and department cleaning and grounds equipment. Maintain proper records, including payroll records, leave time, equipment operations, shift logs, etc. Ensure a safe working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, including alarm procedures and building lock/unlock procedures. Travel between buildings during shift as needed. Maintain and store tools, equipment, and supplies properly. Maintain minimum absenteeism according to the attendance monitoring program. Interact with co‑workers, supervisors and other customers in a cooperative, positive and supportive way. Consistently demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality. Any other duties as assigned. Proven ability to interact effectively and courteously with scholars, parents, the public, and district staff, fostering positive relationships through tact and professionalism. Ability to work effectively under pressure and in an environment of constantly changing priorities and work assignments. Ability to participate as a member of a team.
