Special Education Teacher in Aurora, CO

Step into a rewarding contract position shaping the educational experiences of students with very significant cognitive and behavioral needs in structured learning classrooms. Two full-time opportunities are available within a highly supportive district for Special Education professionals passionate about making a meaningful impact.


Key Qualifications:

• Hold an active Colorado Department of Education Teacher license with Special Education Generalist (5-21) endorsement
• Proven experience working with students with autism; many students are non-verbal and benefit from AAC, so proficiency or familiarity is highly valued
• Demonstrated ability with Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)
• Skilled in managing paraprofessionals to support a positive and structured classroom environment
• Experience with station-based classroom models and researched-based strategies for autism
• Adept at addressing challenging behaviors, such as eloping, biting, or hitting
• Collaborative, adaptable, and able to build positive relationships with multidisciplinary teams

Position Details:

• Immediate start through late May 2027, 37.5 hours per week
• Each position is assigned to a single elementary school (Thornton or Northglenn)
• Manage a caseload of 7-15 students in self-contained Structured Learning classrooms
• Engage with on-site related services teams (SLP, OT, PT, Psych), with support from colleagues for push-in and push-out services
• Participate in a smooth, responsive interview process with school leadership, with the possibility of follow-up interviews to ensure the best fit
