Field Service Technician HW- Charlottesville, VA

The Field Service Technician (FST) is primarily engaged in completing preventive maintenance tasks on Varian Medical Systems (VMS) linear accelerator and imaging systems, ensuring that customers’ equipment operates efficiently. The role involves performing preventative maintenance on all designated VMS equipment according to instructions and company guidelines and operating within a designated field service region. Responsibilities Proactively perform specific periodic and preventative maintenance activities on Linear Accelerators and associated medical equipment outside of normal business hours per documented procedures. Manage time and maintain a daily/weekly schedule to effectively perform preventative maintenance on systems throughout the service region. Recognize the need to escalatte incidents when necessary and/or request additional assistance from more tenured representatives or leadership. Maintain administrative duties, including timely completion and submission of field service work orders and expense reports, and manage consignment parts and other required documentation according to VMS procedures. Communicate required follow‑up actions to the primary assigned representative. Minimum Qualifications High school degree or equivalent (preferred vocational training or military experience with electronics). Excellent time management and professional communication skills, both internal to Varian and externally to customers. Ability to develop and maintain strong customer relationships through strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Basic knowledge of electronic, electro‑mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and plumbing systems. Familiar with basic operation of handheld test equipment used for verification/checkout of electronic equipment, including Digital Multimeter (DVM/DMM) and Digital Oscilloscope. Basic technical experience with micro‑computers/PC based systems and simple hand tools. Maintain Vendor Credentialing status and compliance with customer‑defined requirements necessary for site access (valid ID, background checks, drug screens, immunizations, TB testing, etc.). Desired Skills and Knowledge Understand and utilize the escalation process to Field Service Representative, Management, Service Delivery and Support, Product Support Engineering, Applications. Strong ability to manage customer expectations while building and maintaining positive relationships. Required Certifications and Training Completed all required VMS training classes for Hardware Preventive Maintenance. Business Tools Experience Familiar with email, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with HCM (e.g., Workday) or equivalent ERP product and productivity software desired.
