Job Description

This role supports a busy fabrication shop by supervising welders, coordinating production activities, and assisting with hands-on work on the production floor. The position focuses on ensuring high-quality welding and fabrication, accurate interpretation of technical drawings, and efficient material handling to meet customer specifications and production deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Supervise welders on the production floor to ensure work meets quality standards, safety requirements, and project timelines.
• Review and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and weld symbols to plan layouts, procedures, and production steps.
• Take precise measurements and plan part layout to support accurate fabrication and welding operations.
• Operate angle grinders and other basic fabrication tools to prepare parts for welding when needed.
• Align components using calipers, rulers, and other measuring tools, and securely clamp pieces in place prior to welding.
• Train new welders on shop procedures, safety practices, equipment use, and quality expectations.
• Assist with general production floor activities, including fabrication tasks and supporting team members during busy periods.
• Perform material handling tasks such as loading, unloading, and moving materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment.
• Support inventory processes including picking, packing, and tracking materials to ensure accurate stock levels.
• Use RF scanners and related tools to manage shipping, receiving, and material movements within the facility.
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe manufacturing environment throughout the work area.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of hands-on welding experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to understand, read, and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols.
• Strong math skills, including geometry and algebra, to perform accurate measurements and layout calculations.
• Proficiency with basic fabrication tools such as angle grinders and clamps.
• Competence in using measuring instruments such as calipers and rulers for precise alignment of components.
• Experience with material handling, including loading, unloading, and moving materials safely.
• Ability to supervise and guide welders, providing clear instructions and quality oversight.
• Capability to train new welders and support their development on the production floor.
• Basic familiarity with inventory processes, picking, packing, and shipping activities.
• Comfort using RF scanners and related technology to track materials and shipments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• AWS certification is preferred and may qualify for a pay increase, but is not required.
• Experience operating forklifts and pallet jacks in a manufacturing or warehouse setting.
• History in general labor within a fabrication or production environment.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting and collaborate with coworkers across departments.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
• Reliability in maintaining consistent attendance and meeting production schedules.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very clean, modern manufacturing facility that is heated and cooled throughout the year, providing a comfortable work setting in all seasons. The position follows a day shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with overtime available as needed. Work involves time on the production floor around fabrication equipment, welding operations, and material handling tools such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and RF scanners. The dress code requires steel-toed boots to ensure safety while working in the shop and around heavy materials.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sheldon, IA.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr.
