The York Jewish Community Center is seeking a dynamic, visionary, mission-driven and business-focused leader to lead one of York County’s most respected community institutions into its next chapter. With a rich history spanning more than a century, a strong reputation for service, and a diverse membership base, the York JCC is well-positioned for a future of continued impact. This is a critical time for the organization following a period of leadership turnover and operational challenges and this leader will be energized by the opportunity to not just stabilize the organization but to help it grow and thrive.

The next CEO will have the opportunity to advance strategic priorities, strengthen organizational culture, enhance financial sustainability, expand philanthropic support, raise the organization’s visibility in civic life and deepen the York JCC's role as a vibrant center for community life. This leader will guide an organization that proudly celebrates its Jewish heritage while welcoming and serving individuals and families from all backgrounds.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished executive with a demonstrated ability to lead organizational transformation, build strong teams, navigate complex operational challenges, and inspire stakeholders around a shared vision. This leader does not need to be Jewish themselves but will embrace the York JCC's commitment to Jewish values, inclusivity, and community connection.

Requirements:

Key priorities for the CEO include:  

• Strengthening organizational culture, build trust, and foster alignment across the leadership team and staff.

• Conducting a comprehensive assessment of organizational operations and staffing, identifying opportunities to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and service delivery.

• Maintaining a thorough understanding of the Company’s financial position, while improving profitability and cash flow across all departments and building balance sheet liquidity.

• Establishing strong relationships with board members, staff, donors, members, community partners, and key stakeholders.

• Developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising and donor engagement strategy to support long-term financial sustainability.

• Partnering with the Board of Directors to refine strategic priorities, establish measurable goals and performance indicators, and improve board functions and governance.

• Evaluating current and future facility and capital needs and developing recommendations for long-term investment and campus planning.

Strategic Vision and Organizational Leadership

The CEO will be an inspiring leader who brings experience with strategic planning and can translate vision into clear priorities, measurable outcomes, and organizational alignment. A forward-looking problem solver, they will bring demonstrated experience building, growing, or leading organizations through periods of significant transformation and be skilled at strengthening leadership structures, financial management, establishing performance metrics and accountability frameworks, and fostering cross-functional collaboration across a dynamic and evolving organization. With a keen focus on quality and inclusion, they will know how to ensure programs and services remain responsive to evolving community needs. They will establish strong and collaborative relationships with the Board of Directors, effectively leveraging board expertise while maintaining clear governance and operational boundaries. This will include providing timely and transparent communication to the Board regarding organizational performance, opportunities, risks and strategic recommendations as well as supporting Board recruitment.

Business Acumen and Financial Leadership

The CEO will be a seasoned and disciplined business leader with a strong track record of guiding financially complex organizations through growth, strengthening long-term sustainability, and building diversified revenue strategies. They will oversee all aspects of organizational operations, including membership services, programming, early childhood education, facilities, and human resources. The CEO will bring an understanding of earned revenue models, growth strategy, and operational discipline to achieve goals, with the ability to make sound financial decisions in resource-constrained environments while positioning the organization for the future. Ideally, this leader will bring experience with facilities and capital planning/projects.

Resource Development and External Representative

The CEO will serve as an inspiring ambassador for the York JCC and will bring demonstrated executive-level fundraising experience and the ability to cultivate strategic partnerships in the community. This leader will be comfortable serving as a visible external ambassador for the organization, elevating York JCC’s profile and sharing its successes. Working with the team and the Board, they will cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors, community leaders, foundations, and funding partners. They will possess the credibility and communication skills necessary to engage a wide variety of stakeholders and supporters and be seen as a champion for the organization within the community.

An experienced and motivational leader, the CEO will demonstrate the ability to build and lead an effective, high-performing team that delivers on ambitious goals while ensuring operational excellence and fiscal responsibility. The CEO will bring the ability to listen, set clear objectives, motivate the team to achieve superior results, and provide regular feedback and coaching. In doing so, they will foster both accountability and professional growth. The CEO will ensure that staff are effectively guided, supported, and celebrated for their contributions, while cultivating a positive, collaborative culture where people of all backgrounds may thrive. Through thoughtful performance management, leadership development, and organizational structure, the CEO will drive continuous improvement, engagement and results.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $175,000 - $200,000 with a generous benefits package, 401K retirement plan, and a complimentary family membership to the York JCC. The exact salary that will be offered to the CEO will be determined based on a consideration of the successful candidate’s skills, experience, and aligned with JCC’s compensation policies.
