Industrial Hygiene Technician

Industrial Hygiene TechnicianRaise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They're expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.You lead the hands-on industrial hygiene (IH) work at a refinery in Joliet, Illinois. You find, measure, and control hazards in active process units, and you turn that data into exposure assessments, reports, and plans the site relies on. You keep the IH lab and instruments ready, guide teams during incidents, and help shape how the site protects its people.Responsibilities include:Leading monitoring and sampling inside active process units to identify, assess, and control chemical, physical, and biological hazards.Maintaining the IH lab and keeping monitoring instruments calibrated and ready for planned and unplanned events.Analyzing sampling data, documenting qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments in the site database and writing clear reports.Helping build the annual site IH plan with the IH Coordinator and overseeing IH programs and practices.Leading investigations into concerns that could affect employee health.Reviewing new or modified equipment for health hazards as part of the management of change process.Supporting refinery operations and turnarounds and helping teams troubleshoot gas meter readings and interference.Providing monitoring support during incidents and emergency response, including outside normal hours when needed.Writing and delivering training materials and site procedures on occupational health.Representing IH in site self-assessments and audits, and leading portions of them.Required qualifications include:1-3 years of IH experience in an industrial or manufacturing settingAdvanced knowledge of air monitoring methods, sample handling, data analysis, and instrument calibrationStrong working knowledge of different chemicals and how to monitor themExperience completing exposure assessments and writing technical reportsComfort working inside active process units, with availability for occasional after-hours incident supportClear communication with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams, and with every level of the organizationPreferred qualifications include:Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, or in a physical science or engineering fieldPetrochemical or refinery experienceCertification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH)Knowledge of ventilation and radiation as they relate to IHExperience providing IH support in a laboratory settingStrong computer skills, including relational databases and spreadsheetsLooking for meaningful work?
