School Registered Nurse | Belvidere, Illinois

A rewarding opportunity is available for an experienced Registered Nurse to support a student in an onsite school setting near Belvidere, IL. This full-time contract position is ideal for someone who values meaningful, one-on-one care and is comfortable working collaboratively within an educational environment.

Your main responsibility will involve providing care for an 18-year-old student with a tracheostomy who uses a wheelchair. The student primarily requires suctioning support through his trach. School nurses will offer thorough training on all specific procedures and routines. You will always have a paraprofessional available to assist with changing, along with access to a lift for mobility support as needed. The schedule is full-time, approximately 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Qualifications & Needed Experience:

• Current, active Illinois RN License required
• Previous experience in a school health environment or pediatric care is preferred
• Comfortable with tracheostomy care, including suctioning
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Compassionate, patient-centered mindset

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

• Perform daily suctioning through trach and monitor students respiratory status
• Ensure student safety utilizing a wheelchair belt and proper transferring techniques
• Collaborate with paraprofessionals and school staff to address any personal care needs
• Participate in ongoing training and adapt to care plan updates as communicated by the nursing team
• Maintain clear, timely documentation of care provided and any significant observations
