Job Description

This role leads a team of maintenance technicians in a fast-paced steel and heat-treating facility, ensuring all production equipment and facilities operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. The Maintenance Supervisor oversees preventive and corrective maintenance for complex equipment, coordinates with internal departments and external vendors, manages maintenance budgets and supplies, and performs hands-on work as needed. This position combines technical expertise in areas such as PLCs, hydraulics, welding, and electrical systems with strong leadership and organizational skills to support continuous production and a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate a team of four maintenance technicians, providing direction, support, and leadership in day-to-day activities.
• Oversee all production equipment, including PLC-controlled systems, hydraulics, hydraulic benders, tack and MIG welders, and heat treat furnaces, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently.
• Manage facilities and grounds maintenance to keep the plant, infrastructure, and surrounding areas in good working condition.
• Perform hands-on maintenance work as needed, including troubleshooting, repairs, and coverage for call-offs and vacations.
• Plan, schedule, and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance activities to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with PLCs, electrical systems, hydraulics, welding equipment, and mechanical systems.
• Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to diagnose and repair equipment.
• Work and partner with outside vendors for specialized services, parts procurement, and equipment support.
• Purchase maintenance supplies and materials, ensuring appropriate inventory levels and cost-effective sourcing.
• Monitor and follow the maintenance budget, making decisions that support cost control and operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with all safety guidelines and protocols, including OSHA-related practices, and enforce safety standards within the maintenance team.
• Partner and communicate effectively with other departments, including engineering, quality, and production, to coordinate maintenance activities and support production goals.
• Use computer systems, including Microsoft Office and maintenance or CMMS software, to document work, track maintenance activities, and support reporting.
• Promote a culture of continuous learning and problem solving within the maintenance team, encouraging technicians to seek answers and ask questions when needed.

Essential Skills

• At least 5 years of maintenance experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervising, coordination, or leadership capacity.
• Strong understanding of PLCs, including troubleshooting and working with PLC-controlled equipment.
• Solid knowledge of hydraulics, including troubleshooting and maintenance of hydraulic systems and equipment.
• Knowledge and understanding of OSHA practices and safety guidelines relevant to industrial maintenance.
• Experience with preventive maintenance (PM) systems and processes, including planning and executing PM activities.
• Hands-on skills in electrical maintenance, including troubleshooting and repair of electrical components and systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Experience with troubleshooting and performing preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems.
• Welding experience, particularly with tack and MIG welding equipment.
• Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to use or learn maintenance software and CMMS systems.
• Demonstrated management and leadership skills, including organizing work, directing technicians, and coordinating maintenance activities.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or relevant technical certifications.
• Experience with robots and automation systems.
• PLC programming experience in addition to PLC troubleshooting.
• Experience working in steel, heat treating, forging, or similar heavy industrial environments.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment where priorities may change quickly.
• Self-directed learning mindset with the ability to independently research solutions while seeking guidance when necessary.

Work Environment

This position is on a day shift schedule, with flexibility to arrange a 40-hour workweek while ensuring arrival by 8:00 a.m. Occasional off-shift or weekend work may be required to cover vacations or special maintenance needs. The facility is a steel and heat-treating (forging) operation specializing in parts for fork trucks and other material handling equipment. The environment is fast paced and can be dirty due to heat treating and grinding processes, requiring comfort working in a heavy industrial setting. The role involves regular interaction with production equipment such as PLC-controlled systems, hydraulic benders, tack and MIG welders, heat treat furnaces, and various mechanical and electrical systems. The organization emphasizes self-directed learning, expecting employees to take initiative, learn independently, and ask questions when necessary, while providing opportunities and support for skill development.

This is a Permanent position based out of Findlay, OH.

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $79040.00/yr.
