The Associate Director, Competitive Intelligence will play an important role in advancing Neurocrine's competitive intelligence capability across the commercial portfolio, clinical pipeline, research programs and external innovation activities.

This individual will provide strategic competitive intelligence and counsel to senior leaders and cross-functional teams, translating complex and rapidly evolving scientific, clinical, regulatory, commercial and competitive information into clear insights and recommendations that inform portfolio decisions, business development, R&D strategy and commercial execution.

The successful candidate will help advance a forward-looking CI capability that goes beyond traditional monitoring and reporting. They will identify emerging competitive threats and opportunities, develop perspectives on where markets and therapeutic areas are heading, anticipate competitor actions and support earlier, better-informed decisions.

This individual will also be expected to effectively use and champion modern AI tools to enhance how Neurocrine collects, analyzes, synthesizes and disseminates competitive intelligence. They should be comfortable developing strategic competitive insights and using AI-enabled tools to interrogate large volumes of scientific, clinical, regulatory, financial and market information to identify relevant patterns and insights.

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):

• Contributes to the development and leads execution of competitive intelligence initiatives across marketed products, development-stage assets, research programs and emerging areas of strategic interest
• Develops competitive landscapes across Neurocrine's therapeutic areas, integrating scientific, clinical, regulatory, commercial, market access and financial perspectives
• Identifies emerging competitors, mechanisms, technologies and market developments and assesses their potential implications for Neurocrine
• Provides competitive intelligence, strategic insights and recommendations to Corporate Strategy, Business Development, R&D, Commercial, Medical Affairs and senior leadership
• Translates complex competitive information into clear strategic implications and recommendations rather than simply reporting developments
• Develops competitor and asset-level scenarios, including likely clinical-development strategies, regulatory paths, launch timing, positioning, commercial potential and potential competitor responses
• Leads competitive assessments around major catalysts, including clinical readouts, regulatory decisions, medical congresses, product launches, earnings calls and business development transactions
• Develops and maintains competitive landscapes, company profiles, pipeline databases, catalyst calendars and other decision-support tools across assigned areas of the portfolio
• Partners with Business Development and Corporate Strategy on external innovation, transaction evaluations, market landscapes and strategic opportunity assessments
• Partners with R&D teams to understand emerging biology, modalities and development strategies and identify competitive implications early in the research and development lifecycle
• Partners with Commercial and Medical teams to understand evolving standards of care, physician behavior, market dynamics and competitor positioning
• Designs and leads competitive simulations and war-gaming exercises around important clinical, regulatory and commercial events
• Develops effective approaches for rapidly communicating material competitive developments to leadership while avoiding information overload
• Contributes to the development of an AI-enabled competitive intelligence capability, using modern tools to increase the breadth, speed and depth of competitive analysis
• Uses large language models and other AI-enabled research and analytical tools to synthesize scientific literature, clinical-trial information, regulatory documents, patents, company disclosures, medical-congress data, market research and other structured and unstructured information
• Develops workflows and approaches for competitive monitoring, catalyst tracking, landscape development, signal detection and synthesis of large information sets
• Uses AI to connect information across therapeutic areas and datasets, identify emerging patterns, generate and pressure-test hypotheses, and surface competitive developments that traditional CI approaches may miss
• Evaluates new AI tools and data sources that may improve Neurocrine's competitive intelligence capabilities
• Partners with Digital/IT, Legal, Compliance and other stakeholders to support appropriate and responsible use of AI and external information
• Builds strong relationships across functions and therapeutic areas and contributes to effective information sharing across the organization
• Influences decisions without direct authority and appropriately challenges assumptions with senior stakeholders
• Manages external CI vendors and consultants and helps maintain internal knowledge and strategic judgment
• Mentors colleagues and contributes to the development of CI capability and talent as the function grows
• Contributes to the development and implementation of standards and best practices for competitive intelligence
• Develops competitive insights and contributes to executive-level updates, portfolio reviews, governance materials and Board materials as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• BS/BA degree in life sciences, business or related discipline and 10+ years of relevant pharmaceutical, biotechnology, consulting, investment research, competitive intelligence, strategy or related experience OR
• Master's/MBA and 8+ years of relevant experience OR
• PhD/PharmD/MD or other advanced degree and 6+ years of relevant experience
• Significant experience in biopharmaceutical competitive intelligence, corporate strategy, business development, commercial strategy, consulting, investment research or a related strategic function
• Deep understanding of drug discovery and development, clinical trials, regulatory pathways and commercialization
• Demonstrated ability to understand complex scientific and clinical information and translate it into business and strategic implications
• Ability to operate across multiple therapeutic areas, mechanisms and stages of development rather than remaining narrowly specialized in one asset or market
• Demonstrated hands-on proficiency with modern generative AI tools and experience incorporating AI into day-to-day analytical workflows
• Ability to use AI to conduct research, synthesize large information sets, automate repetitive workflows and improve the quality and speed of strategic analysis
• Strong understanding of the limitations of AI and ability to independently validate sources, identify unsupported conclusions and apply appropriate human judgment
• Ability to synthesize scientific, clinical, regulatory, commercial, market access, financial and competitive information into differentiated strategic insights and recommendations
• Demonstrated ability to identify emerging competitive threats, opportunities and weak signals and assess their potential implications for portfolio and business strategy
• Experience developing competitive landscapes, scenarios, strategic assessments and other decision-support analyses for senior leadership
• Curiosity and a demonstrated tendency to ask "what does this mean?" and "what happens next?" rather than simply summarizing what has already happened
• Experience managing external partners and vendors preferred
• Emerging internal thought leader with strong technical and/or business expertise
• Applies strategic judgment and in-depth expertise to complex and ambiguous business problems

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $171,800.00-$235,000.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 30% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
