Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various duties including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process and specimen collection in a clear and courteous manner.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
• Understand and follow all physician's orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures.
• Place samples in appropriate collection containers, accurately label, and follow procedures for transport.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 0-2 years of relevant experience.

Work Environment

Work in a dynamic and fast-paced lab or hospital environment, adhering to safety and compliance standards. Candidates should be comfortable with handling sensitive specimens and maintaining proper procedures for specimen transport and storage.

This is a Contract position based out of Wichita, KS.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
