Physical Therapy Resident

Job Description Summary Full time Outpatient Orthopedic Physical Therapy resident position, in conjunction with the Ortho Residency program at MUSC. 40 hour work week will be arranged around class time and based on clinic demand and needs, which may include early, late, or Saturday schedules. Job Description The Physical Therapy Resident is a post‑graduate physical therapist participating in a clinical residency program. They work under the direction of the clinical residency program director and rehabilitation manager. The resident also participates in educational, program development, and community service activities. They must meet all curriculum requirements of the residency program, receive general supervision, and collaborate with other healthcare team members. The resident evaluates, administers, and directs therapeutic procedures to patients recovering from injury, disease, surgery, or other ailments as prescribed by a referring practitioner, establishes goals of physical therapy, and re‑assesses patient progress at regular, timely intervals, supporting findings with appropriate documentation. This role requires care for patients of all ages and may direct support staff in assisting with treatment. Job Tasks May Include Consult with patients to understand their physical condition, symptoms, and medical history. Assess and interpret patient evaluations and test results. Develop personalized treatment plans using a variety of treatment techniques. Treatment Planning And Implementation Create individualized rehabilitation programs for patients. Utilize various treatment methods such as therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and modalities (heat, cold, ultrasound). Educate and coach patients on therapeutic exercises and stretches to improve their condition. Providing Hands‑On Therapy And Pain Management Techniques Manual therapy, joint mobilizations, soft tissue mobilization, and other hands‑on techniques. Maintaining Patient’s Electronic Medical Record Maintain accurate patient records and track goals and progress. Document adaptations to treatment plans based on patient response and changing needs. Advise patients and their families on in‑home treatment options and recovery expectations. Document education provided to patients.
