IN-DOH-Microbiologist II Antimicrobial Resistance (803250) Location : 550 W 16th St Ste B, Marion County, Indianapolis, IN 46202 Duration : 6+ Months Work Mode : Phone and in‑person Summary Incumbent coordinates and performs microbiological examinations and analyses—culture, biochemical tests, PCR, and WGS—of clinical specimens to isolate and identify bacteria and yeast such as E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Candida auris. Incumbent documents all quality control and assurance activities under CLIA regulations and may cross‑train in molecular, viral, serological, and other laboratory techniques. Essential Duties / Responsibilities Conduct examinations of samples and reference samples for analyses, including molecular detection and identification of microorganisms or nucleic acids. Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and record maintenance. Extract nucleic acids from specimens, isolates, and samples via manual and automated methods. Utilize molecular techniques such as PCR, sequencing, MALDI‑TOF, and WGS. Evaluate, interpret, and validate laboratory results and report findings. Maintain laboratory record system of submitted samples and specimens. Conduct quality control checks on laboratory methods, materials, and equipment in strict adherence to QA policies. Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and order as needed. Assist in preparing epidemiological or statistical reports from compiled data. Maintain competency across all trained areas. Perform all related work as required. Requirements & Qualifications Extensive knowledge of microbiology principles and practices. Knowledge of current scientific methods and testing procedures. Proficiency with standard technical equipment, complex apparatus, and automated analysis methods. Extensive knowledge of laboratory safety practices. Awareness of state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and policies concerning CLIA. Certification as a technologist pursuant to CLIA. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Participation in proficiency testing programs and QA problem recognition. Ability to compile, analyze, evaluate, and prepare laboratory reports. Two years of high‑complexity laboratory experience as testing personnel, including oversight of daily performance. BA/BS in biological science (highly desired).
