Overview The Division of Public and Behavioral Health: Office of State Epidemiology Cancer Registry has an opening for a full time Cancer Registrar 1 underfill for a Cancer Registrar 2 in Reno or Las Vegas, NV. The underfill will serve as a subject matter resource for Nevada's cancer reporting requirements and work directly with hospitals, pathology laboratories, physician offices, and other reporting entities to ensure accurate, complete and timely submission of reportable cancer data to the Nevada Central Cancer Registry (NCCR). Responsibilities Monitor reporting compliance, conduct outreach and technical assistance, evaluate data quality, and support corrective action processes for facilities that fall out of compliance. Use specialized cancer registry software systems, secure data exchange platforms, electronic medical record interfaces, reporting dashboards, and data validation tools to review and analyze cancer case submissions. Interpret state statutes and regulations related to reportable conditions, develop written correspondence to providers, and conduct structured follow‑up with non‑compliant facilities. Collaborate with internal epidemiology, data quality, and IT teams. Maintain the statewide Cancer Registry by accurately identifying, collecting, verifying, and uniformly maintaining cancer data sets according to program procedures and State and national data standards. Provide technical expertise and training to health care practitioners, facilities, and contracted cancer data abstractors. Abstract and transcribe patient demographic, diagnostic, treatment, follow‑up, and physician information from medical records and other documents; review pathology reports, cytology reports, bone marrow reports, autopsy reports, death certificates, disease indices, and oncology logs; request physician updates; perform re‑abstracting and apply edit checks. Coordinate the activities of contracted abstractors, review submitted data for accuracy, completeness and timeliness, and apply edit checks. Serve as the Data Quality Assurance Coordinator: develop and implement a quality assurance program, perform audits, evaluate discrepancies, implement corrective actions, and provide feedback to reporting entities. Serve as the Education Training Coordinator: develop and implement training modules, train stakeholders on reporting requirements, perform refresher training, and present informational sessions at seminars and conferences. Provide information, technical assistance, and interpretation of rules and regulations related to the collection of cancer data to staff and stakeholders. Compile data and prepare reports regarding program activity. Perform related duties as assigned. Under general supervision, the incumbent performs duties described in the series concept. This is the journey level in the series. Qualifications Current certification as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) issued by the National Cancer Registrar's Association (NCRA). Working knowledge of: human anatomy, histology, physiology and effects of cancer on the human body; medical records system procedures and processes; medical terminology; medical coding; cancer treatment modalities including therapies and surgical procedures; rules and regulations related to accessibility and dissemination of healthcare information. General knowledge of: normal and abnormal laboratory values related to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer; computer systems data entry and database management. Ability to: collect, gather, edit, abstract and evaluate data which may be conflicting and/or incomplete; read and interpret medical records to obtain information concerning the treatment, remission or progression of cancer; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; work cooperatively and collaboratively with health care practitioners, facilities and other stakeholders; operate a personal computer, database software, videoconferencing, webinar and other relevant technology. #J-18808-Ljbffr
