General Maintenance Technician

JOB SUMMARY: Perform general maintenance and repair duties for the grounds, facilities, equipment, and other areas as needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS/ABILITIES

Knowledge
• High school diploma or GED required
• Two years of relevant experience required.
• Possess a valid Texas Driver License and an acceptable driving record.

Skills/Abilities
• Proficiency with the use and proper care of hand and power tools.
• Demonstrated high level of proficiency in building repair activities.
• Demonstrated proficiency to perform minor carpenter, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical repairs.
• Commercial ground maintenance experience.
• Proficiency with standard functions within applications such as Microsoft 365/Google, (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software), e-mail, web browsers, and databases.
• Proficiency with computers (PCs and/or MACs) to include file and desktop management and operations, and working in a cloud-based and/or networked environment.

• Exceptions to these requirements will be considered based on exemplary skills, training, and record of success.

PRODUCTS AND OUTCOMES
• Monitor all building equipment.
• Responsible for completing assigned work orders.
• Build items (e.g., temporary partitions, cabinets, shelves, desks, etc.) for the purpose of modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs.
• Inspect facilities, systems, and their component machinery requiring skilled maintenance trades (e.g., electrical, plumbing, buildings, etc.) for the purpose of identifying potential repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.
• Perform painting and/or touch up painting.
• Perform minor repairs (e.g., floor, ceiling tile/grid, furniture, electrical, plumbing, etc.).
• Work with selected contracted vendors to resolve maintenance issues as required.
• Perform building and/or grounds cleanup.
• Adhere to the Center's Safety Manual for Maintenance Employees.
• Oversee the upkeep of the grounds
• Conduct repairs of sprinkler system.
• Communicate unresolved grounds/maintenance issues to immediate supervisor.

SUPERVISION AND ORGANIZATION OF STAFF
None

BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY
• Be aware of and follow Center guidelines of allowable costs when recommending use of public funds for expenditures for supplies, equipment, and facilities in area of assignment.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
• Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer, peripherals, copy machine, phone, etc; exposure to microwaves and small appliances that produce a high level of heat; work around moving equipment; drive Center forklift in a safe manner.
• Posture: Prolonged walking and standing; frequent bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, kneeling, and twisting.
• Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
• Lifting: Light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional heavy lifting/carrying (15-50 pounds).
• Environment: This role primarily operates in an in-person, dynamic office setting, characterized by frequent verbal communication, movement, and collaboration among team members (small to large in-person gatherings/meetings); exposure to low or intense illumination; exposure to office equipment noise; may work prolonged or irregular hours; occasional travel; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, direct sunlight, low or intense illumination, and noise; work on slippery surfaces.
• Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Obtain forklift certification within 6 months of employment.
• Complete a defensive driving course within 60 days of employment with renewal prior to expiration every three years.
• Champion and model the Center's Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Service Standards.
• Function within the policies and procedures of ESC-20.
• Accept other responsibilities as assigned.
• Dress and groom appropriately for the ESC-20 work setting.
• Travel independently to fulfill responsibilities of the position.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance, majority in-person/onsite.
• Serve at the will of the Executive Director.
